A Tribute to LIFE: The 20th Anniversary of Piper Alpha Offshore Oil Platform Disaster - notes from Oil Offshore Marine
Piper Alpha = North Sea based (Piper Oilfield, NE of Aberdeen), large fixed offshore oil production platform that was operated by Occidental Petroleum (Caledonia); destroyed in 1988, July 6th.
On July the 6th, 2008 - we all owe a tribute to the 167 brave men who lost their lives in the worst offshore oil-related disaster. 167 men - each one of them having a loving family, a wife, children. 167 souls.
They all died innocent, except for one guilt: all 167 were “guilty” of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The “irony” is that the “wrong place” was actually their regular working place, or you can call it their office - for those who never worked on an offshore rig.
But even more, we owe a tribute to the hundreds of family members (wifes, children, parents, brothers and sisters) who lost their beloved ones in the Piper Alpha Offshore Oil Platform Disaster.
God bless them all.
