This position is based in Tananger, Norway. My responsibilities include:
 Primarily working with ConocoPhillips our second largest customer in Norway,
 Advising on bit selection, drilling parameters and hole enlargement operations,
 Monitoring of drilling activities and optimisation for future operations,
 Communication of lessons learned and development of improvements in service quality,
 Providing logistical support, financial-process support and technical advice and support,

Oct 06 – Apr 07 Position: Regional Service Co-ordinator (Coring, Down-Hole Tools, Bits)
This position was based in our “Other Southern Africa” region including Congo, Cameroon, Angola and other countries. Due to reorganisation within the company I moved from covering Angola solely to working across the region based in Pointe Noire, Congo. The emphasis was on the coring operations and my job was like that of any coordinator but with diverse countries to be covered. I also continued to work with down-hole tools and drill bits. Primary responsibilities included:
 Covering regional coring operations,
 Meeting with clients before, during and after operations,
 Maintaining control of inventory,
 Producing all reporting for the area relating to coring,
 Training local personnel in all aspects of coring operations,
 Ensuring HSEQ standards are maintained.


Jun 06 – Oct 06 Security DBS (Halliburton)

Jun 06 – Oct 06 Position: Service Co-ordinator (Down-Hole Tools, Bits)
This position was based in Luanda, Angola. My responsibilities included:
 Primarily looking after the down hole tools SDBS run in Angola,
 Advising on bit selection and drilling parameters to be utilised,
 Monitoring of drilling activities,
 Collecting and analysing data from bit runs and DHT runs,
 Analysing DHT and bit run data to optimise bit and DHT selection and parameters for future wells,
 Communication of lessons learned,
 Providing logistical support and ensuring an adequate supply of tools, spare parts and various bit types are kept in stock,
 Communicating with Security DBS management in Europe and the USA to ensure any issues raised are reported, tracked and resolved adequately,
 Regular contact with the manufacturing plant in the USA and stock points in other areas to maintain tight control of the incoming inventory,
 Direct contact with other suppliers with regard to their products used on the project and maintaining inventory control of these products,
 Involved in the safety leadership system,
 Cost tracking and inventory management,
 Attendance and participation at morning operations meetings, management meetings, safety meetings.

Mar 04 – Jun 06 Security DBS (Halliburton)

Mar 04 – Jun 06 Position: Service Co-ordinator (drilling optimisation)
This was an in-house position with ExxonMobil on their exploration and development project in the Republic of Chad, Central Africa. I was the sole Security DBS management representative in-country working in a rotational position with a colleague. My responsibilities included:
 Advising on bit selection and drilling parameters to be utilised,
 Monitoring of drilling activities,
 Collecting and analysing data from bit runs,
 Grading of bits and making recommendations on further use,
 Regular well-site contact with Company Supervisors, Tool Pushers and Drillers to provide technical assistance and support when required,
 Producing a comprehensive reporting package (digital and physical) on all bit runs,
 Analysing bit run data to optimise bit selection and parameters for future wells,
 Communication of lessons learned,
 Providing logistical support and ensuring an adequate supply of various bit types are kept in stock,
 Communicating with Security DBS management in Europe and the USA to ensure any issues raised are reported, tracked and resolved adequately,
 Regular contact with the manufacturing plant in the USA to maintain tight control of the incoming inventory,
 Direct contact with other suppliers with regard to their products used on the project and maintaining inventory control of these products,
 Raising requisitions for new bits,
 Raising Pro Forma invoices within the ExxonMobil IPES system,

Sep 00 – Mar 04 Security DBS (Halliburton)

Sep 00 – Mar 04 Position: Technical Professional (Coring, DHT, Drilling bits)
Position involved the provision of coring services, the running of down-hole tools and drill bits on a variety of offshore and onshore drilling operations as part of the international pool of engineers as well as regular office-based support when not on an offshore assignment. UK based engineers work as lead engineers throughout the world and provide mentoring support to other areas. Onshore responsibilities included:
 Liaising with client to establish job requirements,
 Review of available offset information for use in operations planning,
 Identification of potential hazards and developing mitigation options,
 Submittal of proposals and tenders to clients,
 Attendance at onshore operations meetings and pre-spud meetings,
 Production of post-job reporting package

Offshore responsibilities
 Responsible for liaising with the Company Supervisors, Tool Pushers, Geologists and Drilling crew with regard to all aspects of the coring operations or DHT runs,
 Providing job-specific and general safety leadership to non-specialist rig crew for coring and DHT operations,
 Directing the floor crew
 Monitoring and optimisation of the coring parameters during core runs,
 Monitoring and optimisation of drilling parameters during DHT or bit runs,
 Recording and analysing of coring and drilling parameters
 Provision of ancillary services such as core gamma logging

I was also involved in the ongoing development of Security DBS’s core gamma logging tool providing a liaison between the R&D department and the engineering pool, testing various developments of the tool in the field then producing detailed reports and spending time with the R&D team to resolves issues. I became the primary trainer for other engineers in the pool, helping them understand the principles behind core gamma logging and the technological advances in the different models available as well as basic operating and reporting practices.


March 99 – Sep 00 International Diamond Drilling (John Lawrie Group)

Mar 00 – Sep 00 Position: Operations Supervisor (Coring)
Due to the parent company’s decision to sell-off the company my role changed and I was charged with accumulating the coring equipment and bits into one central location and arranging for them to be tested, certified and made ready for sale. Responsibilities included:
 Liaising with customs officers and agents in various countries to facilitate the removal of equipment from overseas locations,
 Design and development of a thorough catalogue of all equipment that could be maintained easily by a new owner,
 Supervision of workforce to strip down and later paint/reassemble equipment,
 Liaising with Service Companies to arrange third party inspection of connections ,
 Tracking of inspection certification and maintaining records in compliance with ISO standards.


Mar 99 – Mar 00 Position: Field & Operations Engineer (Coring and DHT)
Operations Engineer for a firm specialising in long-barrel coring operations. The job included both offshore engineering functions as well as office-based support for operations. Responsibilities included:
 Liaising with clients to establish job requirements,
 Review of available offset information to produce a proposal or tender,
 Identification of potential hazards and developing solutions to overcome hazards and minimise risks,
 Responsible for liaising with the Company Supervisors, Tool Pushers, Geologists and drill crew with regard to all aspects of the coring operations or DHT runs,
 Providing safety leadership to non-specialist rig crew for coring and DHT operations,
 Directing the floor and deck crew,
 Monitoring and optimisation of the coring parameters during core runs,
 Monitoring and optimisation of drilling parameters during DHT runs,
 Recording and analysing of coring and drilling parameters,
 Production of post-job reporting package,
 Presenting post-job reports to clients.

Sep 97 – Mar 99 Corpro Systems Ltd.
Position: Field Engineer (Coring)
I began my oil industry career with Corpro Systems Ltd based at their office in Aberdeen and working initially as a trainee coring engineer then later as a full coring engineer in a variety of locations.
 First experience of a drilling rig was offshore in the UK,
 A three-month placement in Nigeria during which time I worked both in the office (to see how their daily operations differed to those of the UK) and also offshore,
 In the office I shadowed the sales manager and was involved in the process of submitting proposals and tenders for work, became involved in the operations and then helped the sales manager to produce the final written reports.

Details of Rig Experience:
 Responsible for liasing with the Company Man, Tool Pusher, Geologist, through to the Roustabouts during the various aspects of the coring operation,
 Directing the floor crew from Driller to Roughneck,
 Toolbox safety meetings and risk assessments,
 Answering any questions any of the crew may have,
 Optimisation of coring parameters during the core run,
 Aiding other senior members of coring team.
