Due to reorganisation within the company I moved from covering Angola solely to working across the region based in Pointe Noire, Congo. The emphasis was on the coring operations and my job was like that of any coordinator but with diverse countries to be covered. I also continued to work with down-hole tools and drill bits. Grading of bits and making recommendations on further use,
Regular well-site contact with Company Supervisors, Tool Pushers and Drillers to provide technical assistance and support when required,
Producing a comprehensive reporting package (digital and physical) on all bit runs,
Analysing bit run data to optimise bit selection and parameters for future wells,
Communication of lessons learned,
Providing logistical support and ensuring an adequate supply of various bit types are kept in stock,
Communicating with Security DBS management in Europe and the USA to ensure any issues raised are reported, tracked and resolved adequately,

Position involved the provision of coring services, the running of down-hole tools and drill bits on a variety of offshore and onshore drilling operations as part of the international pool of engineers as well as regular office-based support when not on an offshore assignment. UK based engineers work as lead engineers throughout the world and provide mentoring support to other areas. Onshore responsibilities included:
Liaising with client to establish job requirements,
Review of available offset information for use in operations planning,
Identification of potential hazards and developing mitigation options,
Submittal of proposals and tenders to clients,
Attendance at onshore operations meetings and pre-spud meetings,
Production of post-job reporting package
Offshore responsibilities
Responsible for liaising with the Company Supervisors, Tool Pushers, Geologists and Drilling crew with regard to all aspects of the coring operations or DHT runs,
Providing job-specific and general safety leadership to non-specialist rig crew for coring and DHT operations,

I was also involved in the ongoing development of Security DBSs core gamma logging tool providing a liaison between the R&D department and the engineering pool, testing various developments of the tool in the field then producing detailed reports and spending time with the R&D team to resolves issues. I became the primary trainer for other engineers in the pool, helping them understand the principles behind core gamma logging and the technological advances in the different models available as well as basic operating and reporting practices.

Due to the parent companys decision to sell-off the company my role changed and I was charged with accumulating the coring equipment and bits into one central location and arranging for them to be tested, certified and made ready for sale. Responsibilities included:
Liaising with customs officers and agents in various countries to facilitate the removal of equipment from overseas locations,
Design and development of a thorough catalogue of all equipment that could be maintained easily by a new owner,
Supervision of workforce to strip down and later paint/reassemble equipment,
Liaising with Service Companies to arrange third party inspection of connections ,
Tracking of inspection certification and maintaining records in compliance with ISO standards.

I began my oil industry career with Corpro Systems Ltd based at their office in Aberdeen and working initially as a trainee coring engineer then later as a full coring engineer in a variety of locations.
First experience of a drilling rig was offshore in the UK,
A three-month placement in Nigeria during which time I worked both in the office (to see how their daily operations differed to those of the UK) and also offshore,
In the office I shadowed the sales manager and was involved in the process of submitting proposals and tenders for work, became involved in the operations and then helped the sales manager to produce the final written reports.

Responsible for liasing with the Company Man, Tool Pusher, Geologist, through to the Roustabouts during the various aspects of the coring operation,
Directing the floor crew from Driller to Roughneck,
