To broach myself, I am a Chemical Engineering Professional with M.Tech. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and over 18 years of experience in Process Engineering, Process Simulation, Process Automation, Manufacturing Planning, Operations Optimization, Applied Research/Technology Development, Technical Operations Management. I had worked with various MNCs/Technology organizations in India and premier oil company in the Middle East.

With strong educational background and experience in advanced process engineering, planning and operations optimization, Technical Operations Management, I am interested to take up challenging assignments and shoulder the responsibilities.

2. Work Experience - CV/Resume Part 2 [Mandatory]

Process Simulation Specialist, RasTanura Refinery, Saudi Aramco, RasTanura, Saudi Arabia, Since Dec 2004. Associated with Saudi Aramco since 2004 with the Refinery Operations Department as Engineer I and efficiently handled various projects and assignments of the Refinery in Process Simulation, Process Automation and Refinery Manufacturing Planning and Economics Optimization.

 Significantly contributed to the profit improvement program and optimization efforts during 2006/2007/2008. Successfully carried out detailed process and economic analysis of improvement opportunities using Petro-SIM based refinery wide model, carried refinery operations performance monitoring, identified and suggested opportunities with significant economic potential worth over approx. US $75 MM/yr. Contributed significantly to the developmental effort on Simulation based Shift vectors for Refinery LP (PIMS) and suggested a systemic process for a refinery wide effective implementation.

 Efficiently handled the deployment of process simulation technology solutions for the benefit of refining operations. These included periodic calibration of KBC Technology based individual plant models and Petro-SIM based Refinery wide model as appropriate to the refining operations. Calibrated the PRO/II based models for condensate fractionation plant of 225 MBD operating capacity and crude fractionation plant of 325 MBD capacity and provided the model based analysis for troubleshooting as required. In addition, efficiently coordinated the simulation related activities including liaison with technology solution providers, review of relevant agreements etc. for the Refinery, organizing and providing training programs to Plant Engineers

Successfully handled and significantly contributed as Process Automation Lead during March to November 2005. Played a key role as RT Refinery representative and coordinated the projects with relevant departments in the corporate (Process & Control Systems Department and Corporate IT) for the successful completion / completing the major mile stones during the period.

 RT Refinery Decision Support System (RTRDSS) for the crude fractionation plant of 325 MBD operating throughput capacity. Phase-1 of the project implementation was completed during the period.

 RT Refinery Enterprise Monitoring Solution (EMS) System: Scope covered implementation of Real-time EMS consisting of various common dash boards for individual plant monitoring, area wide monitoring and facility monitoring along with other functional dash boards for operational, engineering and business monitoring purpose. Actively involved and contributed to the individual plant monitoring dash boards, planning and economics dash board, profit improvement dash board while coordinating the overall effort with EMS development team of corporate IT as well as various groups in the Refinery. The project was successfully completed during the period.

 Emergency Response System (ERS): The project involved implementation of a Refinery wide emergency response system covering the continuous real-time monitoring of hazardous emissions from the refinery, estimation of the impact. Lead the project for successful completion and played a key role in installing the ERS system in Refinery Disaster Control Centre (DCC).

Engineer Fellow, Honeywell Technology Solutions Lab Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, INDIA (A corporate entity of Honeywell, USA) JAN.2002 to 2004. As a domain specialist, handled the following assignments in the areas of Simulation, Advance Process Control, Real-time Optimization (APC/RTO) and Asset Management.

 Defined the functional requirements for the ambitious Unified Simulation Environment's (an integrated environment of gPROMS and SHADOWPLANT) physical properties interface product. Successfully completed the conceptualization, design and implementation of a test automation framework for testing domain knowledge critical MATLAB based Math library software MATHLIB having application in Honeywell APC product lines.

 Handled the challenging assignment 'Competition Analysis for Strategic Planning' in Process Automation. Successfully completed the market segmentation analysis, business competition analysis, comparative analysis of products from major automation players, GAP analysis for identification of potential gaps and scope areas for product enhancement and new product conceptualization. Outlined the scope areas for Honeywell Process Solutions Knowledge Applications at HTSL.

 Significantly contributed and delivered the responsibilities as a key member in stage-gate reviews for various projects in relevant areas, guided and supported the project groups on various technical issues, identified the technology projects for a collaborative interaction with IIT Bombay and actively contributed to the leadership meetings of the management.

 Actively contributed to the product conceptualization and devised a growth oriented innovation project entitled 'Integrated Maintenance and Asset Management System (IMAMS)' having significant business potential ($). Senior Manager - Technical, Onward Technologies Ltd., Mumbai, India(Alliance partner of Aspen Tech., USA.), Sept., 2000 to 2001. Headed the overall technical functionality of Process Software Solutions Division (PSSD) and managed the functionality of technical groups such as Process Design and Optimization, Operator Training Simulators (OTS), Information Management and Systems. Lead the team comprising 30 Engineers (chemical, Instrumentation and comp.sci.). Delivered smooth functionality of day to day operations of Process Software Solutions Division, Kondhwa, Pune. Interacted with the clients in India and Abroad and successfully coordinated and delivered various key assignments. These include:

 ASPEN PLUS based Steady State Process Modeling and Simulation Projects for various Industries in India (Clients include Reliance Petroleum Ltd., Jamnagar, Chemtex Global, Mumbai, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC),Ltd., Baroda). Conceptualized the proposals for simulation based solutions.

 Successfully completed /handled the Operator Training Simulator Projects (OTS) carried out along with Aspen Tech., USA for various global clients such as BP-AMOCO, SAUDI ARAMCO etc. Three OTS projects (Process Area Models and their integration for Plant Simulations in OTISS environment) on PTA process for BP-AMOCO were successfully completed at PSSD, Pune.

 Implemented Process Information Management (IP-21 ver. 3.1, Aspen Tech., USA) project at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (CPCL), Chennai and implemented the Process Information Management (IP-21) for Agrochemical plant at Bayer India Limited, Mumbai, Germany based Multi-National Company.

 Handled the technical evaluation and review of various proposals generated by the division in the areas of Process Modeling and Simulation (Steady State as well as Dynamic), Optimization, Operator Training Simulators and Information Management. Recruited highly skilled technical manpower for various vertical groups of PSSD Division. Developed business in OTS area and coordinated with Aspen Tech. towards enhancement of Business Volume to a significant extent (300%).

Chief Engineer - Process, UHDE India Limited, A subsidiary of Krupp UHDE, Germany, January to September 2000. I was responsible for corporate wide ASPEN PLUS applications at UHDE India Ltd. Mumbai. Initiated and conceptualized Process Modeling and Simulation projects for various in-house processes of Krupp UHDE, Germany and UHDE, India. Efficiently managed, completed the Modeling and Simulation projects and deployed for engineering analysis. Guided process engineers, successfully carried the plant analysis, troubleshooting/debottlenecking of GNFC Nitric Acid plant using in-house developed ASPEN PLUS based simulation models. Conducted optimization studies for revamping of Caustic Evaporation unit of a domestic industry and suggested recommendations with optimum configuration and operating conditions for capacity enhancement.

Senior Engineer - Process, UHDE India Limited, A subsidiary of Krupp UHDE, Germany, August 1998 to December 1999. Efficiently conducted simulations of Caustic- Chlorine Plant of 390 TPD Capacity for acidic and non-acidic cases using Aspen Plus Ver.9.3. Performed Modeling of a Splitter unit of Aromatics Extraction Section of TITAN plant using Aspen plus Ver.9.3 and completed simplified Modeling and simulation of DAP plant. The model was evaluated with design data of 750 MTPD DAP plant of Coromandal Fertilizers Limited, setup at Visakhapatnam, Andhrapradesh, India. Plant wide Modeling and Simulation of UHDE Nitric Acid Process using ASPEN PLUS ver.10.1. Evaluated the model with reference plant design data of 352 TPD RCF Nitric Acid Plant at Bombay, India and design data of 750 TPD revamped Nitric Acid Plant of GNFC, Bharuch, India.

Mission Engineer (Grade-I), Computer Aided Design Centre, IIT Bombay, Mumbai, INDIA, February 1997 to September 1997. Handled the responsibilities and significantly contributed to the research oriented technology development project 'Design and Development of a Multi-Purpose Simulator (MPS)'. Designed the software and generated abase case steady state information of case study problem using PRO/II steady state process simulator during the period.

Research Engineer, Computer Aided Design Centre, IIT Bombay, Mumbai, India, April 1993 to January 1997. Extensively contributed to the applied research oriented technology project Development of a Multi-Purpose Dynamic Simulator (MDS) for Centre for High Technology, Ministry of Petroleum, New Delhi and Engineers India Limited, New Delhi. I was a key member in the project group and was actively associated in all assignments (from the initial stages of conceptualization, design/structure and development). Extensive testing was carried out. A number of complex case study problems were analyzed and successfully completed the additional assignments. These included:

 Dynamic modeling and simulation of BTX Unit of Indian Oil Corporation’s Refinery at Baroda, India (Benzene and Toluene columns).
 Controllability analysis of BTX separation process of IOC, Baroda; Prototype knowledge base system for the controllability analysis was also developed using G2 Expert system environment.
 Dynamic simulation of Model IV FCCU (Riser-regenerator section)
 Control system synthesis and design of FCCU
 Dynamic simulation and control of Shell Oil Refinery's Heavy Oil Fractionator
 Dynamic simulation of Refinery Gas Tail Section using SPEEDUP

Senior Research Associate, Computer Aided Design Centre, IIT, Bombay, February 1991 to April 1993. Efficiently handled the modification and testing of Batch Distillation Simulation Software Package BATCH-DIST for Tata Consultancy Engineers, Bombay and Tata Consultancy Services, Pune. Simulation and optimization of few batch distillation units were carried out for the client. Efficiently handled the assignment entitled ‘Feasibility Study on the Development of Multi-Purpose Dynamic Simulator’ for Engineers India Limited, New Delhi. As part of the effort, an extensive survey of state-of-the art software packages for process industry applications for handling steady state, dynamic simulation, control system analysis, hazard and operability studies and expert system environments for knowledge base development was carried out along with their detailed techno-economic evaluation. In addition, preliminary design and techno-economic analysis of MDS was also carried out. The feasibility report was submitted prior to the schedule.

Research Work leading to Ph.D. Degree (Guide: Dr. K.P. Madhavan, IIT Bombay, India)
Dynamics and Control of Heterogeneous Azeotropic Distillation Columns: The azeotropic distillation deals with the separation of highly non-ideal close boiling point mixtures with reduced number of stages and energy requirements. However, these processes were reported to behave erratically and loose product purity for no obvious reason. Research effort was directed towards the analysis of operability and control of these columns. As part of the study, the following problems were solved: A new methodology was found for the rapid analysis of multiple steady states using residue curve and vapor line; Comprehensive analysis of dynamics, sensitivity and controllability of heterogeneous azeotropic distillation (HETAD) columns was carried out. An interesting global dynamic behavior was found to be associated with HETAD Columns; Dual composition control of HETAD columns was investigated in detail and the impact of presence of multiple steady states on control of the column was analyzed in detail.
