Project: Investigation and Damage Mitigation of Coastal Bridges under Hurricane-induced Wave Forces
 Created a 3-D nonlinear finite element model of the U.S. 90 bridge across Biloxi Bay, Mississippi, with ANSYS. Analyzed the bridge performance under proposed hurricane-induced wave loads. (part of a technical report)
 Investigated the feasibility of steel cables and SMA cables as potential devices to reduce wave-force-induced bridge damage by assessing the as-built and retrofitted bridge models through simulation studies. (two journal papers)


Structural Engineer, China IPPR International Engineering Corporation, Beijing, China July 2003 - July 2006

Performed structural analysis and design for 15 large projects including reinforced concrete, steel, and masonry structures. Worked closely with other disciplines to ensure coordinated designs. Coordinated structural preliminary design with collaborative foreign design companies such as SOM and WAI. Interacted with clients and regulators. Conducted site visits during construction and solved associated problems as required.

 Responsible for the structural analysis and foundation design of the Zhongjing Yiyuan project, a multi-tower structure including a complicated opera building and three high-rise commercial buildings with a project area of 2,300,000 sf.
 Led a team and implemented the feasibility study of using base isolation in the South Building of the Jiefangjun Hospital project. Performed seismic structural analysis and directed the design of the base-isolated building structure, which became the first base-isolated hospital building structure in Beijing, China
 Conducted the structural scheme comparison and led the preliminary design of the two 23-story buildings in the Beijing Finance Street Central Area A5 project. Coordinated the preliminary design with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill LLP (SOM), San Francisco.
 Performed structural analysis and design of the Chinese Embassy building at Washington, DC. Checked design calculations of designers and other engineers within the team. Coordinated structural design with Weidlinger Associates, Inc. (WAI), New York.
