I have been involved in QA/QC within the Oil and Gas for over 35 years starting with British Gas as a pipeline Inspector through Senior Inspector and onto QA/QC Engineer. I have also been employed as a Company Representative with Statoil, Shell, AIOC/BP and Bluewater

In the seventies and eighties I was involved with Marathon, Conoco, Britoil on the fabrication of top-sides and decks, and was the focal point for all site quality matters on a 14,000 tonne topside and jacket in Azerbaijan for BP in 2005. In the nineties I was also involved in subsea pipe lay all over the world including six years with Statoil and Senior Pipeline Inspector .During my time with Bluwater I was Site QA Manager on three projects a new build FPSO and sub-sequent upgrade and the repair of an FPSO. As you will see from my CV more recently I have been involved with subsea architecture Manifolds, flexible risers, PLEM’s etc, although still keeping involved in construction, installation projects.

I’m comfortable working in any location, offshore/onshore, office or site.
I have worked both in the UK and overseas having recently been engaged in projects in Croatia, Australia, Norway and Azerbaijan. I’m familiar with the two major QMS systems ISO and API as well as GOST, EN, BS, EMMUA, AWS, API, DNV Specifications. Although I have no formal HSE qualifications I have been involved in HAZID’s,HAZOP’s and HIRA‘s etc as well as monitoring and reporting on safety at site.
My last three projects give you an idea of how versatile I am having worked as a Marine Warranty Surveyor (new gas field development offshore), Assistance Barge Representative/QA Lead (Deep water sub-sea pipeline offshore) and as Subsea QA Advisor (Shell) I have just completed a project in Croatia and am immediately available.

Career History

I have been involved in QA/QC Inspection within the Oil and Gas Industry for over thirty five years starting as a Welder, Welding Inspector through to Senior Inspector/NDT, Company Representative, and QA/ QC Advisor
In that time I have gained experience in construction of jackets, topsides, FPSO PAU’s/Turrets, land lines, sub-sea pipelines, manifolds and the architecture associated with them, I have also been involved in the repair and upgrade of various types of vessels. FPSO’s, Semi-Sub’s, Diving Support Vessel’s, lay and crane barges.
I have been involved in FEED work with Shell during the design of a “Standard Manifold” and the Welding/NDT of Super Duplex Material, but have spent most of my time in the “define and execute” stages of projects. In the “define stage” my role is to carry out a review of the contractors Quality Management System, in particular their Project Specific Documentation, Bid Documentation, QA Plan, ITP, PEP, and any Proposed Construction Installation Procedures, and carry out a “Gap Analysis” to verify it’s compliance to the FEED design philosophy and the Clients Procedures/ International Specifications, reporting back any non-conformances. During this process I would attend all Bid clarification meetings required before entering the execute stage of the contract.
At the execute stage of the contract my role is to interface with the IVB on SCE items, as well as attend all contractor kick-off meetings, monitor the contractors compliance to the contract, the project specifications and procedures by being resident on site/vendors facility our through the employment of third party Inspectors (Direct Hire/Velosi). As part of this process I would carry out compliance/process audits where applicable witness/monitor the fabrication sequence and attend FAT;s and SIT;s as required, (paying particular attention to the long lead items) review all Manufacturing Record Books before signing of acceptance. I also assisted in the preparation of the Pipeline Works Authority documentation. Although I have no formal HSE qualifications I have gained a good understanding of what is required at site to safely carry out the various stages of fabrication/installation.

To ensure that all Marine Operations/Vessel Management, Construction/Installation and pipe laying operations were carried out in compliance with Client Procedures, RINA (IVB) regulations and Croatian Law (CRS). Due to the lack of experienced HSE personnel onboard I also took on a more active safety role on the day to day operations being carried out onboard reporting findings back to the contractor/Client. Attend all clarification/kick off meetings, and report back any non-conformances to specifications/ procedures and Shell DEP’s.
Provide guidance to other Engineering Departments within the Project on Quality provisions within the contract documentation, and subsequent management of contracts.
Prepare timely reports on activities and other support documentation as required.
Review and “sign off” supplier document submissions (MRB’s) Review/mark up intervention points construction quality plans/ (ITP’S).Interface at site with all parties and review production documentation for compliance, deploy and monitor where appropriate Shell Approved QC Inspectors/Third Party Inspectors (Velosi) as required in the Shell QA Plan/EN 10204. On completion review all Manufacturing Record Books, Data Packs, “as built” documentation packs for compliance. Assist in the preparation of the Pipeline Works Authority and SCE documentation identified by the IVB.
Due to welding problems within the department, a considerable amount of time was spent on the development of a Shell DEP covering the welding/NDT /Insulation of CRA material
