CV/Resume Details
1. Summary (Cover Letter) - CV/Resume Part 1 [Mandatory]

I am a watchkeeping deck officer (STCW’95 II/I – unlimited) with experience on various types of offshore vessels including cable-laying, dive support, ROV, platform supply, well stimulation, and multipurpose vessels.

I came ashore in 2004 and have since been working in risk management and loss prevention for ship owners/operators through their P&I Club. After a successful period ashore I have decided to return to sea indefinitely to complete my qualifications, and eventually gain valuable experience as a master mariner. I am interested in long-term employment on vessels operating outside of UK waters for tax purposes.

My time spent ashore has provided me with extremely valuable experience which makes me a more knowledgeable and wiser officer than I was previously. I have spent a number of years analysing P&I claims such as collisions, groundings, personal injuries, and cargo losses. My current work has been client-facing; providing ship owners/operators with guidance on accident prevention, regulatory and other industry matters.

I have also been involved in the ship inspection/survey programme of the UK Club and making decisions on club cover for entered vessels based on their condition survey reports. This includes formulating a list of recommendations and time limits for repairs. With the Standard Club I regularly attend surveys for my own learning and experience.

In my work I have taken a particular interest in human error; the cause of almost all accidents and incidents on ship. I present to ship operators on latent failures, primary and underlying causes, preconditions, and risk assessment.

I look forward to returning to a sea-going capacity and using my experience gained ashore to ensure safety and the efficiency of operations on the vessels on which I serve. I will be providing my current employer with notice of termination of my employment with a last working day of 28 August 2010. I aim to commence my next employment immediately afterwards.

+ 2009 - 2010 Loss Prevention Executive - Charles Taylor & Co. Ltd. (Standard P&I Club)
+ 2004 - 2009 Loss Prevention Executive - Thomas Miller P&I Ltd. (UK P&I Club)

Charles Taylor & Co. Ltd. and Thomas Miller Ltd are management companies providing insurance solutions to ship owners and operators. Since 2004 I’ve been working independently and also within a small team to provide risk management solutions and loss prevention initiatives for the benefit of club members. Tasks and responsibilities include:
 Project management
 Editor of a weekly loss prevention bulletin
 Provide advice to members and claims executives on cargo matters, regulatory issues, and other industry matters
 Assist in the production of loss prevention material including videos, articles, newsletters and other publications
 Perform data analysis and produce claims risk profiles that indicate, for the club or a specific member, trends and other features found in the claims data
 Maintain relationships with correspondents, consultants and industry organisations
 Stand-in to manage the ship inspection programme during holiday periods
 Secretary to the UK Club’s committee on the carriage of cargo
 Manage the loss prevention area of the club website and associated on-line services

+ 2000 - 2004 Deck Officer - Sealion Shipping Ltd.

Most of my experience was gained on large platform supply vessels carrying deck and wet and dry bulk cargo. As a deck officer I would work aboard ship; responsible for navigation, communications, crew and cargo. As the ship’s safety officer I would be responsible for the maintenance and inspection of safety equipment and life-saving appliances.

+ Other work experience
In the eight months I spent ashore prior to finding employment with Thomas Miller, I worked in a sales support role for Datamax in Essex. Supporting the European sales team, my main responsibilities included arranging complete travel plans for the sales team and processing any leads they made. My role also involved dealing with customers and partners on the phone; assisting with queries or requests on a daily basis.
