4. Computer Skills - CV/Resume Part 4 [Mandatory]
I.T. SKILLS

Expert in the use of all Microsoft Office applications, Sage Accounting, image and video editing and production and various desktop publishing software products.
5. Other Skills - CV/Resume Part 5 [Optional]
Specifically, my work involves the following elements:

Liaison – In Ethiopia, I have formed excellent working relationships with other embassies in Addis Ababa and in particular with the UN and UN WFP. We are in contact on a regular basis and exchange information about incidents and training regularly. This close liaison is vital for gathering intelligence and forming a mutual support network.

Security Advisor – In addition to providing advice to all staff at the British Embassy, I also advise the UN agencies, British International NGOs, the major hotels, the Belgian, French and Danish embassies.

Training – I consider training to be a vital factor in preparation for emergencies. I run courses in first aid, security procedures, emergency response, communications, terrorist methods of operation and fire drills. I have run courses for two major hotels, over 300 members of staff, the Belgian and British Embassies, The British Council, DFID and the UNWFP.

Security risk assessments – I carry out risk assessments on all kinds of property, including private residences, hotels, embassies and NGO compounds. In more hostile regions, where journeys are a risk, I carry out route reconnaissance and assessments before travel.

Management of staff – Apart from the management of 56 guards in Addis, I managed the entire staff in the GRD oil sector in Iraq, some 200 people including UK, US and local employees, both civilian and US military. I worked closely with the close protection teams, the intelligence section and the US State Department, who often asked for advice on handling tribal/clan matters.

Production of emergency plans & practice of emergency drills – during my years in Iraq I was based primarily in the Sheraton Hotel and International Zone, though we travelled all over the country. For each location and every vehicle move I produced emergency plans, to cover the many threats we faced and we practised them regularly.

When I arrived in Addis Ababa, the existing plans to deal with emergencies were completely outdated and needed to be re-written and practiced. Having produced workable plans, I have run exercises for the embassy and managed to include people from the UN, UNWFP, French, US and Danish embassies.

VIP visits – I have organised the security and medical cover for two secretaries of state for International Development, who travelled outside of Addis Ababa into other regions. Close liaison with the Metropolitan Police, DFID the UN and UN WFP were essential prior to and during the trip.

Trauma Medic – As an ex military medic, I also hold the following qualifications, First Person on the Scene (FPOS) and Medicine in Remote Areas (MIRA) and I have attended several trauma incidents in Addis Ababa where no doctor was available. I have been asked by the trauma specialists at the main hospital in Addis Ababa to run courses for their ambulance technicians.
6. Additional Information - CV/Resume Part 6 [Optional]
I am currently contracted to The United Kingdom Foreign Office, with a notice period of thirty days.
