| 6. Additional Information - CV/Resume Part 6 [Optional] |
Before joining the US Navy I was a fisherman, crewman, Captain and shipyard worker at numerous locations throughout the US and Caribbean.
After completing instructor led training for 10 months at NATTC in Millington, TN I was an AT (avionics tech) in the US Navy at the Oceana Naval Air Station in Oceana, VA. I was nominated for a Navy Achievement Medal for developing and deploying a process change to mitigate damage to RF amplifiers in the ARC 192 radio system. While active duty I took advantage of the tuition assistance program to complete a B.A. at Old Dominion University in History and Philosophy. Also took college courses in communications technology, digital systems, computer networks and electricity/electronics.
My first civilian technical job came at a public service contractor in Vero Beach as an RF bench and field technician installing and servicing the EDACS digital communications system. The system made use of 800 MHZ trunking as well as spread spectrum and microwave propagation.
For 2 years while attending graduate school for my MBA and to round out my professional technical experience I worked in the I.T. department of the International Speedway Corporation which is the business management and support of motor racing facilities including NASCAR and other organizations. Point of sale terminals, ticketing and accounting functions were the focus of support.
As the “Dot Com” bubble was well developed when I got out of graduate school I took a position with a company providing a novel service in 1999, Wireless Internet based on the Ricochet system developed by Dr. Paul Baran the co-inventor of packet switching. While the technical idea was ahead of its time the business did not develop. I was an integral part of the team that successfully deployed a wireless internet system for the city of Atlanta ahead of schedule and under budget. For this I and my team were awarded the “Making It Happen” award for exceptional effort. The duties of my particular position were administrative with right of way preparations and contractor negotiations as well as technical in developing a GIS database as well as assisting the field engineers with all aspects of procurement and process development for efficiency.
With several unforeseen changes in my personal life after the end of Metricom I took a position with Viatech, a contract manufacturer, providing on- site technical and project management to the Test Equipment Engineering section at the Motorola plant in Plantation, FL. All work provided was toward the goal of moving manufacturing offshore and eliminating production in the US. At this time Motorola was suffering vast losses and in order to survive the difficult decisions had to be made to cut costs.
It became obvious after 2000 line personnel layoffs that my position at Viatech within the Motorola facility would be coming to an end. As a sea service veteran I chose a field position with Sperry Marine, a division of Northrop Grumman.
The tasks include planning and procuring materials for the installation, commissioning and service support of the integrated bridge systems including radar, gyrocompass, auto pilot and machinery control systems. I am entirely responsible for all aspects and the success of every project or service support task assigned to me. The position involves extensive travel, 24/7 response and a vast body of specific technical knowledge of products and interfaces between products.
While the position has been good in terms of personal earnings there is no possibility to advance or raise my level of responsibilities within the organization. I am not able to use my best business skills to advance the firms position in the marketplace and have observed a decided and precipitous decline in our market share due circumstances over which I have no control.
