CV/Resume Details
1. Summary (Cover Letter) - CV/Resume Part 1 [Mandatory]

In 2008 I decided to take the Masters 100 T exams for the US Coast Guard. I have been sailing all my life. I started very young around age 7. At age 11 I was already sailing solo in day sailing boats in Cornwall, already doing many miles in an open boat. As a result I experienced very young the moods of the sea, and around the Lizard point, lies the open Atlantic ocean.

I sailed more in my twenties and early 30s before I got married and had children. I then had a long period in which I stayed ashore until the year 2002, when I started sailing again. I had always enjoyed navigation and I wanted very much to do my license. In 2008 when living in Seattle I decided to take the following US Coast Guard exams.

Master 100 Tons.

I then took the Master Oceans 1600 T exams, as I wanted to be able to be licensed for oceans. I had wanted to sail solo around the world on a 60 foot racing yacht, called an Open 60. This is a very technical boat, and so I decided to license myself for the minimum oceans license with the US Coast Guard, which is Master Oceans 1600 T.

As sailing yachts are invariably lower tonnage than 100T, I have not yet got the sailing time for my full 1600 T license. I have taken all the exams for it, including Radar Observer, Ratings forming part of a navigational watch, Lifeboatman, Basic Safety Training, Advanced Fire Fighting, Celestial Navigation, the 1600 T exam, Able Seaman.

At its most basic, I believe that I have the leadership skills and the navigation skills as well as the intellectual skills to be a Mate on any tonnage ship. I am a very safety conscious person, and like to work in an organized clean environment. I have managed extremely large complex projects, and I know that many seamen need to have clear guidelines and clear directives especially when it comes to safety matters. Almost 90% of accidents at sea are a direct result of human error. I hope that by being ever vigilant, I can be a highly effective member of your crews and ensure compliance with the best safety standards in the industry. I have managed very large projects in the past, and I believe I have the skills that will bring substantial added value to your organization.

In closing I love the sea, I like the people who work in this industry. I would like to spend the rest of my life working in this industry.

PS I speak many languages and am very effective in crew handling.
