A global conglomerate employing over 105,000 people, of more than 140 nationalities, working in over 80 countries. World leading oilfield services specialists with market cap of $8 billion and operating income of $30 billion.

Operations Manager, Egypt (2006-2009)
Resident Operations Manager in charge of geophysical operations employing over 1000 staff. Full P&L responsibility for multiple operations with combined annual revenue of $60M and net of 6.5%. Account manager for several major clients.
• Improved operational efficiency, developed strategic relationships and negotiated contracts to maintain market share in a competitive market; increase revenue by 7% and net by 2%.
• Devised and implemented major headcount and cost reduction plan to ensure targets were met when business cycle in Egypt slowed, resulting in a headcount reduction of 34%.
• Leveraged client relationship to open up a new market, worth $10M. Successful project completion results in a 100% market share position.

Operations Manager, Algeria (2006)
Short term assignment in Algeria to rescue flagship project mobilization for British Petroleum.
• Turned around failing operation by personally moving to remote project location to identify the problems first hand and worked together with the staff and client to devise, implement and monitor solutions.
• As a result of successfully turning around the operation, invited by the Country Manager to stay on as Operations Manager.

Operations Manger, Chad (2005-2006)
Took over a long running project for a major client; Exxon Mobile, which was losing revenue and suffering from high personnel attrition.
• Turned a $2.1M loss from the 2004-2005 season into $635k net and reduced personnel attrition rate by 43% through improving client relations, team building and project management skills.
• Liaised extensively with client, military and local authorities, as sole Schlumberger manager, to successfully evacuate all personnel from country and secure assets when an attempted coup occurred.

Senior Project Manager, Egypt (2003-2006)
Special assignment to introduce and implement cultural change following a merger and act as the senior Project Manager for the first ever 3D survey of the Nile Delta – an area of dense infrastructure, environmental and historical importance for the host country.
• Transformed project into the top performing project in the company for three successive years through leadership, change management, team building, safe working practices and innovative operations management, many of which were subsequently adopted as standard practices within the company.
• Based on the operational success, strategic relationship and major discoveries of this venture, Schlumberger were awarded two subsequent projects, worth over $100M, securing a 100% market share position.

Project and Operations Manager, Saudi Arabia & Kuwait (2000-2003)
Transferred to Saudi Arabia as project manager to take over a long running, underperforming project on behalf of a key client; Saudi Aramco; the largest oil company in the World.
• Transformed project into the most profitable in the Middle East: improved profitability by over 12.8% through improved operational efficiency, employee morale and successful team building.
• Project recognized as setting the standards for compliance, HSE, training and diversification within the region; leading to many best practices.
• Subsequently chosen to mobilize a new operation in Kuwait; the first for the Kuwait Oil Company, one of the richest oil companies in the world. Project cancelled soon after initiation by the outbreak of the second Gulf War.

Project Manager, Libya (1998-2000)
Selected to mobilize a new, $20M project in a remote area; previously considered too difficult for exploration.
• Through the development of key client relationships, opened up a new market opportunity during a serious downturn, the successful completion of which enabled the company’s Libyan operation to weather the downturn, retain a presence in a key market and take full advantage of improving economic conditions.

Progressive Positions, Egypt, Nigeria, Dubai, Saudi Arabia (1990-1998)
Progressively took on more senior roles as Schlumberger acquired and merged seven separate companies to form the world’s largest petroleum exploration company.
• Pioneered the first management training program for the company. Successful completion and development of which led to the establishment of a dedicated MBA training program for high potential employees.
• Following the Cullen report into the Piper Alpha disaster, worked with Shell to produce the first ‘safety case’ for Egyptian operations and the regional safety case in Dubai; these became the templates for all future projects.
• Managed 300 labourers in an area of dense jungle and swamp covering some 2000 square miles as part of a major project for Shell in a politically sensitive region of Nigeria. Successfully completed operations leading to the award of a follow on project.

The British Antarctic Survey
Britain has a long tradition of scientific endeavor and excellence in the South Polar Region, including the discovery of the Ozone Hole. It is one of the leading environmental research centres in the world and is custodian of the longest continuous data sets in Antarctic history. British Antarctic Territory is strategically significant, believed to be the rich in minerals and wildlife and is the part of Antarctica most sought after by other nations.

Research Scientist (1986-1989)
One of only 15 scientists selected for their technological skills, resilience, dependability and interpersonal skills, to spend 3 years on the Antarctic mainland acting as representatives for the British government and carrying out research in the fields of geomagnetics, ionospherics, seismology, meteorology and ecology.
• Member of the follow up team investigating the discovery of the ozone hole which successfully confirmed the 1985 findings of Joe Farman, Brian Gardiner and Jon Shanklin.
• Conducted joint research projects with UK universities and international bodies from America, Sweden, Germany and South Africa to further scientific understanding of the Polar Regions.
• Trained in survival and safety management techniques. Became a non-qualified paramedic, firefighter, television cameraman and communications specialist plus a skilled tradesman in woodwork, metalwork and diesel generators.
