Since last 14 years, I sailed only on different types and size of vessel which includes Car Carrier, Bulk carrier, Tankers- Product, Aframax, Panamax, VLCC and Bitumen tanker etc. On many occasions, the pilot boarded close to the berth and this gave me an opportunity to sail ships through narrow entrance and channels. These operations were carried out during day and night and sometimes in severe weather conditions. Therefore, I very confident in ship handling in different circumstances.

• I am confident to be a good and safe pilot. I successfully completed manned model ship handling course in Mumbai, India. These are the comprehensive courses which are specially designed for Masters to handle different kind of vessels and rudders. This course involves various berthing and un-berthing operations with tugs and bow thrusters, and transiting in Suez Canal and approaches with bigger vessels. I was also trained to handle the latest vessels in the market like large bulk carriers and ferry vessels with twin screws. I had also transited Torres straits on my last vessel Joni breeze from Booby Island To Cairns and vice versa at several times. These were comprehensive courses and I believe, if I am offered a position , my vast ship handling experience along with this course would contribute in safe handling of vessels in harbour and around.

I do visit various international ports including Australian ports and therefore, I have thorough knowledge of international maritime conventions as well as local maritime legislation.

• I am good in paper work. On various occasions I worked in office as well when ships were not available immediately. On vessels, I conducted safety meetings and prepared reports, check lists for various operations.

• I am quite fast in solving the problems. In day to day operation of vessel, I encountered various problems which I successfully dealt with. I am fast in analysing the problem and always think ahead. It is instilled in me from my training time that clear and concise instructions are to be given to avoid any ambiguity especially when the helms-man is on the wheel or so. Therefore, I fully implement this approach of providing clear, concise and thorough orders. During my sea career of 14 years I sailed with different nationalities and solved many of their professional and personnel problems.

• I am good in safety and environmental protection. Our company is ISO 9001 and vessel operates under ISM quality assurance. Hence, have full knowledge of internal/ external audition. Have facilitated several times the external audition of my vessel without any deficiency including ISPS audition. Before undertaking any job, I am required to do risk assessment, like tank entry or hot work. Hence, I have full knowledge and experience in risk management.

• I have a good command in English. As master, I deal with various authorities in English, both written and oral. On a daily basis I send various messages like ETA notices, departure reports, noon reports etc. In port, I make protests and sometimes when an incident takes place - an incident report. I possess MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) certificate as well enabling me to be competent in computers’ use.

• I religiously adhere to HS & E policies. HS & E is very much applicable on board the ships. Safety shoes, goggles, overalls, gloves, helmets are must on board the vessel. The shipping is much more environmentally aware than any other industry, like pollution by oil, garbage or air pollution. I check all the records like oil record books, garbage logs etc at regular intervals to ensure that the procedures are being strictly followed.
