Project1: Hydrodynamic Seals of CO2 sequestration wells (DOE contract # FE-10-0001)
a Development of a novel green geo-material corrosion inhibitor applied in high temperature and high pressure systems.
b. Development of a well health monitoring system using nonlinear acoustic nondestructive detect technique.
c. Investigation of localized corrosion mechanism in wellbore system.
d. Characterization corrosion scale using SEM, EDX, XRD, XRF and SANS (small angel neutron scattering).
e. Corrosion model development using finite elemental method.

Project 2: Wellbore operability: key issues related to carbon steel corrosion for CO2 sequestration (DOE contract #04FE04-09)
a. Carbon steel corrosion under high-pressure, high-temperature, CO2- and H2S-bearing environments.
b. Carbon steel corrosion with mechanical deformation.
c. Carbon steel corrosion with presence of cement.
d. Model development for wellbore corrosion.

Project 1: Wellbore integrity of CO2 sequestration wells (DOE contract #04FE04-09)
a. Corrosion of steel with presence of cement under brine saturated with supercritical carbon dioxide: A study of mechanisms of wellbore leakage as applied to reservoir, CO2 sequestration and storage.
b. Developed high pressure, high temperature and high salinity water chemistry models for corrosion application.

06/2007 – 08/2007: Intern corrosion engineer, BP America Inc., Houston, TX
1. CO2 corrosion degradation map development
a. Extended existing BP corrosion model limitations to high temperature, high pressure and high salinity environments.
b. Developed and incorporated an oxygen corrosion model to the existing BP corrosion model.
2. Galvanic corrosion model development
a. Developed a carbon steel and inconel galvanic corrosion model.
b. Developed a galvanic corrosion distribution model for bimetallic tubular geometry.
3. Designed test matrix to validate the developed CO2 corrosion model.

Project1: Localized CO2 corrosion mechanism:
a. Galvanic mechanism of localized corrosion: Developed an artificial pit cell to directly measure the electrochemical galvanic current and to investigate environmental factors and pit geometry effect on the localized CO2 corrosion propagation.
b. Passivation of steel: Electrochemical study of properties of the spontaneous mild steel passivation. Studied the nature of the passive film using SEM, TEM/EDX, X-ray diffraction with glazing incidence and Rutherford backscattering.
c. Corrosion surface water chemistry: Developed a surface pH probe to measure the surface pH at Fe interface. Measure pH profile along an open pit using micro pH probe design.
d. Electrochemical corrosion model: Developed an electrochemical mechanistic localized CO2 corrosion model.
