TAQA Energy, Cormorant Alpha, Instrument Tech Maintenance.14/12/10 – 30/05/11
2/2, 2/4 rota as a contributor to the maintenance team on a rolling contract.
The priority here is F&G and process maintenance routines. I am Working with Deluge systems, fire and gas detection systems and completing maintenance routines and reactive works within Maximo work orders. I have installed and commissioned the Bently Nevada systems on newly refurbished Wood Group GTPs and motor driven pumps. I routinely perform work orders on the process instrumentation. This is a mature platform and I encounter a wide variety of instruments which is broadening my experience.
I worked within the ISSOW permit system as a Performing Authority and contributed actively to the safety culture on board. I organised work parties and conducted toolbox talks.
I enjoyed my time on board with WGE, but due to the reorganisation of labour on the field I was no longer needed. I am actively seeking a permanent role.
BP British Petroleum, Instrument Tech Commissioning. 28/04/10 – 18/10/10
B.P, In Salah Gas, Central Sahara Algeria. Petrofac. 3 x 6wk trips completed.
Contracted to Commission two gas compression plants, REG and Kreshba. I was Initially on construction checking termination drawings and wiring JB’s. I was also coordinating local labour and PTW to install tie-in equipment into an existing LER in preparation for the connection of the new Gas plant. I organised logistics and resident labour through the In Salah Gas systems and PTW to get the new control and patch panels for the Instrument air compressors, F&G, Yokogawa DCS tie-ins installed, then participate in the hook up of these new systems to the live system.
I moved to the REG camp where I conducted final commissioning / cause and effects on the two PGT25s and satisfied client punch list items before start up. I worked on all of the systems on the gas plant as required.
This site has a Yokogawa DCS, F&G system, two Nuovo Pignone PGT25 GTC’s and two 15mw SGT100 GTG’s. This site is also an addition to a brownfield plant where I was verifying data sheets and calibrating Yokogawa transmitters and signing “B” sheets in preparation for client handover.
On my second and third trips which were to the Kreshba site I commissioned the Crowcon / Vortex Fire and Gas detection systems.
This included one basic panel with a mimic, an addressable panel and another new panel on the brownfield site to cover the new GTG.
I also calibrated / stroked the process valves / transmitters and signed “B” check sheets for my work. I green lined the process as built drawings & participated in cause & effect testing. Being one of the few qualified UK contractors on site I was responsible for site-wide Ex inspections and signed off new installations for QC purposes prior to hand-over.
Contract satisfied.

Balfour Beatty, Instrument Tech Commissioning 16/03/10 – 27/04/10
I was contracted to Isolate and disconnect process valves and instrumentation and then reinstate, commission & calibrate them upon renewal or replacement as required.
Working with Fisher & various other process valves, stroking and commissioning constantly. Also calibrating and commissioning various Transmitters and process instruments using a HART communicator and various Druck test equipment to verify their Calibration and function, also to conduct a loop check back to the Honeywell 3000 DCS.
Many new Fieldvue positioner/controllers and LTs have been installed around the site and I was tasked to configure and calibrate them using the HART Communicator and the Calibration sheets. Also unblocking Impulse lines with a Tangye pump and general Ex checks and maintenance tasks.
I’m responsible for completing and signing the calibration certificates for each device or valve.
I went directly to Petrofac Algeria after TAR completion.
Amerada Hess Ltd, FPSO Triton. 2/2 Instrument Tech, 22/01/10 – 09/03/10
I was contracted to Wood Group as an Instrument tech to assist with a backlog of onboard maintenance and commissioning needs on the vessel.
Using Maximo and the HESS Ltd permit system I conducted work orders including EEx inspections and remedial works to the process plant on Fisher valves and various Rosemount process instruments etc. Maintenance and repairs to the Honeywell fire & gas detection systems – line of sight, Draegers, smoke, flame, heat detectors etc. And assist in the repair and re-commissioning of the Bently Nevada vibration analysis system on the Seawater injection pumps & gas compressors.

I wrote reports and modified engineering drawings / schematics and repaired or upgraded the weather systems as required to meet CAP437 Civil Aviation Regulations.

I was directly responsible for the training of two junior engineers.
The equipment included, Pressure, Temperature, RH Transmitters, rain gauges, Wave Radar, Infra red cloud and visibility sensors. Accelerometers and Anemometers.
