Public Health & Safety Expert specialized in areas of Public Health, Environment and Administration, with practical experience in Project Management, Marketing of Public Health commodities, Training and Training needs assessment, Community development in Mining/Industrial set-up and Leadership skills. For more than twelve (12) years Dastan has been working both in Public and Private sectors in the areas of Capacity Building, Training and Project Management including preparation of IEC (Information Education Communication) training manual and materials for different target groups. Through his experience with local and international agencies he works across a number of industries including business and product development with particular emphasis on strategic generation of market demand for such products and services in mining sector development arena.
Currently Dastan is working with ABG (African Barrick Cold) as a Public Health and Safety Coordinator as he is coordinating a project on the provision of health and safety services to community and ABG workforce for sustainable profit generation among community members and company for socio-economic development in the area. The services facilitate the successful implementation of health and safety initiatives, customer services, money management, personal career planning and marketing research, with goal to reduce occupational Health hazards and communicable diseases, including malaria and HIV/AIDS. He is responsible for overseeing the range of public health and safety programs carried out by the company such as Drive First (DF) program, Management and Control of Vector-borne Diseases (VBD), Pesticides Management (PM), Safety Management (SM), Safe Case Documentation and Safety Control and Management; also Malaria Control in humanitarian Crises.
Additionally, Dastan is responsible for inventory and logistics management, Development of Safety and Management Plan for projects, Conducting behavioral safety observations and interventions in accordance with current operating procedures.
Before joining his current employer Dastan had worked in the Management of Community, Public Health and Environmental Health services for six (6) years with Government and local also International Organizations such ITI, TIDESO, Helen Keller International and KAWASO. Working as District Health Program Coordinator with ITI he supervised the two (2) year Blindness Eradication Program (Southern Part of Tanzania) where he was to link the Organization to the Government, District council and Financial Institutions while promoting community members access to improved pit-latrines, clean water, food, and waste management which finally translated into reduced Trachoma Blindness incidents, managed diarrhea diseases and waste. With the same employer he developed a universal plan for Trachoma disease eradication in the southern Districts, and authored Technical Training Manuals (Swahili & English versions) on Trachoma eradication processes; also Public Health tips for sustainable socio-economic development in the area.
Dastan has undergone professional trainings which include Health and Safety, Vector-Borne Diseases Management, Fire Fighting, Pesticides Control and Management all from OHS-Training Institution. Also has done driving trainings then qualifying in Defensive Driving (DD), Risk Factors in Driving (RFD), Impaired Driving (ID), Safety Practices in Driving (SPD) and Managing Hazards provided by National Institute of Transport (NIT) in collaboration with Kahama-Mining company. Other certified professional training such as computer, entomology, allergic reaction management and health education provided by Tanga Training Centre.
Along with his engagements with employers, Dastan would also devote his ample time to undertake some consultancy services, and group discussion processes. His most recent work was a collaborative participation in the preparation of strategic plan for the Mining Sector and mining industries to be involved in mobilizing Business for Healthy Community, commissioned by Global Health (GBCHealth), Rollback Malaria, and CAMA putting in place the Business Case for IRS, a comprehensive program for malaria control in Africa in collaboration with Abt and AngloGold Ashanti.
Dastan also conducted a one year research on malaria control in African Community setups for increased Public Health awareness to improve community participation in malaria control projects in Tanzania for fulfillment of his BSc. Studies. He holds a degree of Environmental Health Sciences, with specialization in Environmental Economics, Occupational Health & Safety, and Business Management from the University of Dar-Es-salaam Tanzania; Diploma in Education (Psychology, Adult learning) with introductory courses in Pure-Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
