I take this opportunity to introduce myself as a graduate (B. Tech) in Naval Architecture and Ship Building, from Cochin University of Science & technology, Cochin, India.
Currently with about fifteen years of experience in the Design/ Engineering departments in Marine and Offshore industry in India, and the Middle East. Presently working as Senior Naval Architect /Structural engineer in the Engineering Department (Dragon Offshore Industries LLC) of QGM Group LLC, PO Box 41834, Hamriyah Freezone, Sharjah, UAE (since Oct 2005).
Serving as Engineering Team Leader guiding a group of forty including Naval Architects, Structural Engineers and draftsmen. Actively involved in guiding the above team in the design, calculations/ analysis, FEA and preparation of Production Drawings for New Build and Rebuild of Offshore drilling rigs.
Also supporting the team by providing design procedures (such as for design of Helideck, Accommodation Module; in addition to Load out engineering ( of rigs up to 4000t), heavy lift engineering, skidding, installation engineering etc)
Years of experience in FEA tools of ANSYS, SACS and Staad Pro. Modeling tools of RHINOCEROS, SOLIDWORKS. Expertise in Ship Stability tools of MAXSURF and NAPA.
Previously also served as Surveyor (Plan Approval) in the Plan Approval department (Hull & Stability) of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), Bombay, India, the Indian Classification society for ships and offshore structures (an Associate member of the IACS International Association for Classification Society)

Graduated in Naval Architecture from Cochin University of Science & Technology, Cochin 22, Kerala, India , in Jan’ 1992.Presently with fifteen years of experience in the Engineering Departments in the Marine / Offshore industries & Classification society (Plan Approval with Indian Register of Shipping ), in India & in the Middle East.

Presently working as Senior Naval Architect and leading a team of Naval Architects & Structural Engineers in Dragon Offshore Industries LLC (DOIL) the Engineering Division of the QGM Group LLC, UAE. QGM Group LLC/ DOIL is the first Jack Up Rig builders & Designers in the Middle East. Dragon Offshore Industries LLC is the Engineering Division with a team of 130 professionals; including Naval Architects, Structural Engineers, Mechanical/ Piping engineers & E&I including drafting personnel.

Served as Naval Architect (Projects), Naval Architect/ Structural Engineer, Ship Surveyor (Plan Approval), Naval Architect/ Structural Engineer and currently as Senior Naval Architect.

Previously Served as Naval Architect / Structural Engineer in the Engineering Department of Dubai Drydocks, PO Box 8988, Dubai , UAE (from May 2002 to Aug 2005). Expertise in detailed design/ calculation and engineering supports to New Builds, Ship Modification/ Conversion &, repairs.
Years of expertise are summarized as below:
• Structural Design expertise by First Principles. More than 60 spreadsheets developed over years to assist in engineering calculation (GEMS). Also developed calculation templates using MathCAD/ VB.
• Structural design of ships (upto 105m) & Offshore Jack Up Rig design to Class Rules including IRS, ABS, Lloyds, DnV, GL & IACS.
• Structural Analysis of structures using ANSYS (Static, Large deflection Analysis, Contact Analysis, Modal Calculation)
• Ships & Offshore structure Stability/ Damage Stability Calculation using NAPA (Naval Architectural Package) & also using Max Surf/ HydroMax/ Hull Speed.
• Ship resistance and powering calculations using Hull Speed (Maxsurf) in about 7 methods for displacement, semi displacement , and high speed vessels.
• Structural Analysis & Code checks using STAAD Pro (Code checks to IS, AISC, API, and BS standards & punching shear checks for pipe structures etc)
• Jack Up Rigs global analysis using SACS, Structural Analysis Computer System (Code checks as above, Modal, Large Deformation, Pushover and Wave Fatigue analysis)
• Surface modeling and fairing expertise using RHINOCEROS; the universal modeler also used in ANSYS, Maxsurf etc.
• Familiar with Statutory Requirements based on ILLC, IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL.
• Expertise in using Class Scantling design software POSEIDON (Germanischer Lloyd)
• Foundation and underdeck design for equipments, machinery and outfits.

Preparing and Compiling design calculations and analysis reports to ISO 9001 standards. Also served as an Internal Auditor (Lloyds Certified) to Dubai drydocks.

• Developing procedures and Engineering Calculations for Heavy Loadout (also of Rigs) etc up to 4000 t. Documents to Warranty Compliance (Noble Denton, Salvage Association etc)
• Developing procedure and Engineering Calculations for Heavy Lifts upto 2000 t (max).
• Developing procedure and Engineering Heavy skidding operations upto 300 t.
• Under deck stiffening for heavy duty winches, cranes. Also for ETA (Emergency Towing Arrangement) for Tankers
• Design review and approval of Tow Hooks up to 100 T SWL.
• Design of 25 t SWL EOT Crane structure for yard.
• Heli deck design to CAP requirements for jack up rigs
• Shale shaker house structural design for jack up rigs.
• Drilling rig cantilever structural design including skidding systems.
• Complete accommodation structural design for jack up rigs (upto 105 men facility)
• Preparation of Inclining Experiment Procedure, booklet , conducting inclining experiment and determination of light ship parameters. Compiling trim and stability booklet. Preparation ship trial procedures and conducting sea trials of ships.
• Carried out in In-place, lifting & transportation analysis, of structures including accommodation modules of jacket platforms, helideck structures for jack up rigs, machinery platforms etc using STAAD Pro.
• Design of cantilevered crane pedestal and under deck design for offshore drilling rigs.

During the initial stages of the career had opportunity to get involved with the Commercial side in ship building. Involved in the Preparation of Technical Specification for new construction of ships. Preparation of detailed MTO/ BOQ for various construction projects including steel, equipment, machinery and systems.

2) Fatigue analysis of SHIPS (FDA)
