During my time at Western Marine Power I have been involved in planning jobs, liasing with customers and carrying out all necessary work required on motor yachts ranging from 42ft up to 95ft and varying in makes and models but predominately working on Princess Yachts.Western Marine Power are well established for there custom designed bespoke work with a moto of “ What the customer wants, the customer gets”, therefore we deal with a lot of fabrication work and using different types of materials, we are also involved in various design work to meet the customers expectations. I am always involved with the planning of various tasks setting individuals certain jobs and time scales and getting the best out of my team so that the boat is complete on time to a very high standard.A typical weeks work would involve all aspects of mechanical, electrical and plumbing work. I am experienced with 12-24v DC and also 240v AC electrical systems. I have a stronger background in mechanical engineering but am always keen to learn more skills throughout engineering.
2006-2006 Wrigley’s Corporation LTD Estover PlymouthMaintenance EngineerI worked at Wrigley’s corporation for eight months, as a contracted maintenance engineer to cover, due to company expansion. Job roles would cover repair, maintain, and re build of all plant machinery. Working on conveyors, PLC's, ac/dc, single phase, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical/electronic fault-finding. Breakdown cover, faultfinding and repairs on various process and plant machinery.
2004 – 2006 Princess Yachts Langage PlymouthMarine EngineerPrincess Yachts are based in my hometown of Plymouth England they have over 1500 employees and build 18 different models of motor yachts ranging from 42ft up to 95ft. (www.princessyachts.com).I worked for Princess Yachts for 2 years as a build engineer this would involve starting at the beginning of a build running in wiring looms through to the middle of the build installing engines, prop shafts, generators etc to the completion of the build wiring the mains circuit breaker panel and sea trailing the boat to complete any snagging work required. Whilst working for Princess Yachts I have widened my knowledge from working solely on cars to building, maintaining and overhauling super yachts. I have also had the experience of testing all work that had been carried out by engineers both at build stage and at sea.Here are some of the day to day roles that I would undertake§ Electrical/electronic fitting – GPS systems, DVD player/TV’s, electrical sockets/switches, battery chargers, 12/24v DC systems, 110/240v AC systems AC contractor boxes, bilge pumps and vacuum toilet systems, winches and all control boxes.§ Mechanical fitting – Engines, prop shafts, generators, exhaust, hydraulic, fuelling and steering systems, engine alignment, all on board water systems. § Fault finding – Quality checking electrical faultfinding and mechanical diagnostics.§ Working to deadlines – Completing work tasks within required deadline, § All work to be accurate, neat and quality checked§ Daily and weekly targets to be reached without fail§ Using technical manuals, wiring diagrams and change of build bulletins§ Additional training such as health and safety, manual handling, saw training and overhead crane training.
2002 - 2004 Murray Volkswagen PlymouthSenior Vehicle Technician§ Working for Murray Volkswagen was a very demanding job as we were often understaffed and being one of the busiest workshops in Plymouth meant we had to work long hours very efficiently but also very accurate, as the customers expectations were very high. The jobs daily would vary from being a small service to an engine or gearbox overhaul also timing the engines when replacing the main drive belt.§ Within this job role I had a more hands on experience with dealing with the customers. My roles included explaining faults found on customers vehicles, taking the customers on a test drive to find reported faults. As well as this I also would undertake all the usual vehicle repairs, servicing and faultfinding. During which I had to be responsible for time keeping whilst on jobs. Time keeping was essential to make sure jobs were completed on schedule and accurately.§ Whilst at Murray’s Volkswagen I undertook in a two-month job role as a Service Adviser to further my skills with customer service, and also pass on my technical knowledge to members of the service team and customers. This job role included using a computerised system, which I was able to learn very quickly as I already had excellent computer skills.Also whilst at Murray Volkswagen I carried out a number of courses such as new product training, fuelling and injection, steering and transmission, basic and advanced electrical courses and also I have been trained by Tracker Ltd to officially fit tracker security systems to all vehicles.
1997 - 2002 Rodgers Of Plymouth Brixton PlymouthApprenticeship/Qualified Vehicle Technician§ During the first 3 years, I completed my NVQ level 3 in vehicle mechanical and electronic systems advanced modern apprenticeship, during these 3 years I would have to travel 4 hours to Southampton and stay for training every 6 weeks for 2 weeks. After this time I was employed as a qualified vehicle technician carrying out the usual jobs which included: Servicing, Diagnostics, Electrical fault finding and general repairs. I left this company as I wanted more responsibility and to improve and widen my overall skills.
