I have been working in ORYX GTL Gas to Liquids plant that is under construction in Qatar since April 2004 where I became involved in many activities regarding the installation, operation and failure investigations of the new plant equipment. I also created the maintenance philosophies and maintenance schedules for all the Rotating Equipment based on information obtained from the equipment manuals, vendor discussions, good engineering and maintenance practices as well as the inclusion of a dedicated condition monitoring philosophy for predictive maintenance.
Many of the systems for the plant and its maintenance activities had to be designed from scratch using information from a wide variety of sources resulting in frequent brainstorming sessions. I see myself as a visionary thinker who wants to try anything and usually find excellent solutions in a practical and timely fashion.
I started my career in the Power Generation industry in South Africa where I worked for a coal fired ESKOM power station responsible for the Turbine Plant Engineering activities namely plant investigations, long term plant health, performance and operational monitoring and minor modifications. I attained the position of Turbine Plant Engineering Manager with 4 system Engineers reporting to me. This department was also responsible for the Condition Monitoring activities and Oil systems in the plant. Following a short stint in my own business I worked at Fluor Daniel in Secunda South Africa for the SASOL 2 and 3 plant as a Rotating Equipment Design Engineer within an EPC environment for modifications, plant extensions and upgrades.
