I have been involved in the maritime industry for the past 11 years, advancing from an entry-level deck/engine position to a USCG Licensed Second Mate Unlimited. Experience: Feb. 2007 – Present, Overseas Shipholding Group, Deck Officer
Responsible for the safe navigation of tanker vessels; loading and discharging of dangerous cargoes; shipboard management of steward department and procurement of vessel stores; onboard Safety Officer responsible for training, emergency drills, and inspection of all lifesaving and firefighting equipment; participated in yearly surveys and shipyards of the vessel; supervising cargo tank cleaning and personnel entry; ballasting and deballasting; implementing crude oil washing and cargo reheating; operating and monitoring inert gas plant.

July 2006-Feb. 2007, P&O Ports North America, Marine Superintendent
Supervises advance planning activities prior to vessel arrival; checks berth conditions for docking, working areas for safe operations of stevedores and checkers, and that all labor has been assembled for adequate and efficient operations; act as focal point for any stevedoring issue that may arise with assigned vessel; responsible for instituting electronic warehouse management tools for the tracking of vessel discharge, inventory control, trucking scheduling and other warehousing applications. Supervising discharge of ro/ro and break bulk vessels; maintaining union, customer, and vendor relations; work closely with vessel operators, shipping agents, and customs officials in order to release customer’s cargo in timely fashion; maintaining high level of safe operations.

Marine Control Room Operator: Responsible for the safe loading and offloading of processed crude oil; custody transfer and metering of offloading operations; completing Bill of Ladings in regard to crude export; working with in house chartering staff to coordinate timely cargo lifting’s; supervising cargo tank cleaning and personnel entry; implementing crude oil washing and cargo reprocessing; operating and monitoring inert gas plant; maintaining draft and trim of the vessel within operating parameters and with due recognition of process plant requirements; interpreting, monitoring and operating onboard stability computer to ensure vessel seaworthiness; radio liaison with shuttle tankers, supply vessels, standby vessels, adjacent installations, cranes, and deck crew; assisting production supervisor in the control and issue of work permits and isolation confirmation certificates for the facility; developed and implemented marine related procedures and manuals for the facility; mentoring of Angolan nationals to assume facility operator roles; providing support for the process control room operator in areas of primary oil separation, water injection, gas injection and plant utilities.

June 2003-Aug. 2004, ExxonMobil Development Company, Commissioning and Start-up Operator:
Participating in the final construction of an FPSO at Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan, Korea; liaison with HHI construction personnel to ensure correct fabrication and installation of production facilities; provided marine expertise in cargo handling facilities; ensuring functionality of end devices plant wide; ensuring Delta V Operating System functional throughout the facility; clearing punch list items; providing acceptance signature for management of marine related equipment, cargo handling systems, and associated instrumentation; intimately involved in the commissioning and start up of FPSO utilities, cargo systems, oil production, water injection, gas compression and injection; worked closely with facilities and process engineers trouble shooting various facility issues.
