1. Summary (Cover Letter) - CV/Resume Part 1 [Mandatory] |
Dear Sir or Madam,
With 29 years varied experience as a geologist, including working as a team leader, I am seeking a senior position (contract or staff) where I can add significant value to an operator by doing what I do best, which is what I also find to be both stimulating and enjoyable. That is, having a mix of technical and reporting responsibility for multidisciplinary resources undertaking field development planning (FDP), including reservoir modeling as appropriate, and subsequently taking full ownership and accountability to manage and execute planned drilling campaigns (exploration, appraisal or development), preferably working in a multicultural environment.
In addition to geological and subsurface technical skills, I offer to employers a pragmatic approach driven by commercialism and justification of the business case. I have a demonstrable track record of success as interface between drilling engineering and exploration/development (in multicultural environments) and a penchant for novel and fit for purpose solutions.

Projects included onshore and offshore assets, overpressured reservoirs and deep water (Kuma Block, Makassar Straits) exploration. Core member of global team of excellence, geological operations. Champion of VOI in regard to all discussions regarding data acquisition.
2004 - 2007 SENIOR PRODUCTION GEOLOGIST & TEAM LEADER (SHELL STAFF CONTRACT)

Development planning, W&RM reviews, HC maturation, project ranking, ARPR reporting, geological operations etc. Identified and matured deep NFE prospects and championed OH completions. Project Manager of Amal/Amin studies/projects (commended for leading the Amal Steam Project to VAR2). Built/maintained Petrel reservoir models, including stochastic property modeling. Led the planning and design of 15 horizontal DL/SL development wells/year plus appraisal and near field exploration. Monitored wells and updated Petrel models real-time. Mentored less experienced national staff and assisted with their PDP’s. 3.- Senior Geologist on the Mukhaizna steam development project.
2002 - 2003 PRINCIPAL PRODUCTION GEOLOGIST (CONTRACT)
PETRONAS CARIGALI - SHELL MUTIARA PETROLEUM (CSMP), MALAYSIA
Led and managed exploration studies in a complex JV/PSC (Blocks PM301 and PM302, Malay Basin). Built exploration scale Petrel models of B.Dahlia/Angerrik/Kamelia prospects (Miocene aged channel sands). Worked with partners, principally Shell (SSB), to generate a robust exploration portfolio → subsequent commercial discoveries. Estimated/corroborated range of in-place and reserves volumes using Petra, Fastrack, Rose, and Petrel. Presented prospects to the SSB Fastrack Panel and CSMP TCM. Contributed to Block PM302 V2V workshop.
1996 - 2002 PRODUCTION GEOLOGIST (3 X 2 YEAR CONTRACTS) BRUNEI SHELL PETROLEUM COMPANY, BRUNEI
Development Planning: “Owner” of the Iron Duke Phase 2A appraisal-development HPHT drilling campaign (~50km of hole). In relation to proven severe overpressures, conceived strategies (e.g. additional activities, activity sequencing) to mitigate risk and reduce uncertainties. Responsible for delivering production and data, within AFE and HSE compliant (e.g. flow-unit integrity requirements for abandonment). Awarded Shell Special commendation (Code 40) for crucial cross-functional role and innovative CAPEX-reducing fish-hook wellbores, combining exploration/appraisal and development objectives. Mapped (Landmark’s Seisworks-3D) L10 lead and integrated well data, leading to a significant discovery (new business opportunities). Synthesized PE data into a comprehensive Field report. Built Petrel reservoir models (realizations). Etimated in-place volumes and supported dynamic simulation. Pioneered new workflow to correlate flow units despite complex structure and inverted stratigraphic penetrations. Designed original trajectories for BSP’s first “snake” well.
Geological Operations: Led integrated multi-cultural PE teams to generate complex ER/HPHT/horizontal appraisal and development well-proposals (“designer wells”). Undertook VOI/VOA analyses and uncertainty, risk, and hazard (HSE) assessments. Designed and geosteered BSP’s most prolific ever onshore (RS-31St1) and offshore (ID-20St1) oil wells. Contributed to the development of national staff. Directed geosteering at wellsite, challenging service providers to overachieve > world record wellbore inclinations (167 degrees). Advised on geological operations to various BSP assets and to other Shell OPCO’s.
1996 PRODUCTION - OPERATIONS GEOLOGIST (CONSULTANT) HARDY OIL & GAS, INDIA
Provided independent review of a ‘green-field’ 2+2 well appraisal and development campaign of the PY3 Field, Bay of Bengal, India. Developed and implemented service contract awards, etc. Coordinated logistics to set-up office and mobilise to Chennai. Planned and prepared data acquisition programmes. Participated in JV/PSC partner meetings and liaised on a regular basis with contractors.
1995 - 1996 PRODUCTION GEOLOGIST (CONSULTANT) QATAR GENERAL PETROLEUM CORP, QATAR.
Challenged ‘brown-field’ RDS/FDP proposed development objectives for an intensive onshore infill drilling campaign, a new phase of development of the giant Dukhan Field.: Optimised the design and NPV of all 35 proposed horizontal wells. Justified, monitored and successfully geosteered (carbonate layers 1-3m thick) horizontal wells based on lithofacies. Updated maps using Z-map+. Documented well results. Mentored nationals.
1995 SENIOR PRODUCTION GEOLOGIST (CONTRACT) VEBA OIL OPERATIONS, LIBYA
Provided geological, geophysical, and petrophysical input to justify re-completions/workovers, including hydraulic fracturing and acidising. Investigated the potential of Upper Gir water to provide pressure support for Lower Gir and Facha producing reservoirs. Supported reservoir engineering studies, including Intera’s classical study of the Mabruk Reservoir, Farrud Field. Estimated in-place and recoverable volumes. Contributed to training nationals.
1992 - 1994 PRODUCTION GEOLOGIST & A/HEAD GEOLOGY OPERATIONS (CONTRACT)
BRUNEI SHELL PETROLEUM COMPANY SDN BHD, BRUNEI
Development Planning: Working within an integrated team, provided geological support to ‘brown-field’ study (RDS) of Mumong Main Block, Seria Field. Challenged the established subsurface model, invoking a substantial increase in STOIIP via thin-sand potential. Estimated in-place volumes ranges. Identified opportunities for infill drilling and justified same. Presented recommendations to the government regulator. Reviewed and optimised activities proposed in the 1994 Champion FDP, Blocks 18-22, H-J reservoirs > reduced CAPEX and risk and increased NPV. Author of numerous internal technical reports.
Geological Operations: Led a small team preparing well proposals for deep and complex ER (and reverse ER), appraisal (VOI) and development wells. Designed and supported the drilling of HPHT wells in the Champion Ultra-Deep Field (Peragam Field).
