Currently preparing for Orals Examinations on the 22nd of January 2008. I'm meployed by the South African Shipping Company since 2005 as a marine trainee engineer, and also have Mechanical Enigneering S4, only subjects from the completion of my Diploma.
2. Work Experience - CV/Resume Part 2 [Mandatory]
Responsibilities of marine engineers are based on maintaining and improving of plant performance. My duties as engineer-in-training were to: Assist in the development & improvement of plant maintenance. Check plant performance by logging down operating data parameters, prepare plant performance analysis report, do visual plant inspection. Evaluate plant availability and failures and develop corrective action plans Manage consumption of fuel, lubricating oil, waste oil, fresh water within storage tanks and machinery then prepare formal reports. Member of problem solving technical team within the plant. Participate on major plant development projects. Operate main machinery (propulsion engine and associated systems), generators, and alternators and associated control systems Operate pumping systems and associated control systems. Carry-out major maintenance of marine engineering systems, machinery and control systems Carry-out boiler water tests, cooling water tests and lubricating oil tests, then apply water treatment according to findings from tests Perform specific tasks on controlling of stores and stores management system

I spent 13 months on sea-going Safmarine ships as marine Engineer-in-training, where I was carrying out engineering tasks and duties which included project work, plant operations and plant planned maintenance according to specifications and standards and ensuring that overall plant is under control, effective (good performance) and safety of personnel and machinery within workplace. Training was mainly based on plant operation & performance, control and maintenance of the following plants and machinery: refrigeration and air conditioning plant, sewage plant, steam boilers, pumps, heat exchangers (heaters and coolers), air compressors, fresh water generation plant, 2-stroke engines, 4-stroke engines, purifiers, fans, blowers and pipe systems for lubricating oil, fuel (heavy fuel and diesel), steam, sea-water, fresh water and compressed air.
