1. Summary (Cover Letter) - CV/Resume Part 1 [Mandatory]
To whom it may concern,
I would like to apply for a cook position on any offshore oil rig. I have experience cooking in a camp setting as Sous Chef last summer at Peregrine Lodge. A world class fishing resort in the Queen Charlotte Islands, where I spent two months in camp and one week off and two more months in camp before end of season. I would be a valuable asset as I have Transport Canada Certificate's in Marine Emergency Duties A1, A2 including MED B1 - Survival Craft, MED B2 - Marine Fire Fighting & Marine Advanced First Aid.
I completed my Culinary Arts Certificate at Malaspina University – College in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada in March 2007. The training I have includes hands-on experience preparing meats, starches, vegetables, pastries and desserts. I have developed strong knife techniques and my speed of preparation, was commended by my chef instructors. I learned to prepare and appetizingly present food in two very different cafeterias, as well as for the Discovery Room, which is our fine dining room on campus. As we served students and the public, preparing food to high standards, under strict time pressure, were key skills I mastered.
Also my work experience with Department of Fisheries & Oceans in March 2007 aboard the Clupea and Walker Rock helped me very much in learning how to cook on a ship and what it takes to deliver meals to the highest standards possible. By utilizing the BBQ, a grumpy stove, toaster oven, microwave and limited space I was able to satisfy the appetites of the hungry crew.
