Process/Production technician with over 10 years operations experience within Petrochemical, Chemical, Oil&Gas and Nuclear industries. Currently looking for opportunities either offshore UK or abroad within the Oil&Gas or Petrochemical industries.

Sep ’07 to present date Production Technician, Petrofac, Point of Ayr Gas Terminal

· Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment utilised in the removal of hydrogen sulphide and condensates from gas received from the Liverpool Bay gas rigs, before export to Connah’s Quay power station.

· Equipment used includes gas/liquid, liquid/liquid and low temperature separators, amine absorption and regeneration columns, sulphur recovery unit, gas fired furnaces and heaters, catalytic reaction beds, refridgeration equipment, pressure relief to flare, pig receiver system and chemical injection systems.

Isolate and de-isolate plant equipment in support of maintenance activities. Linewalk and leak test plant equipment after maintenance activities before returning to service.

Perform in-process analysis and adjust process parameters to ensure optimum plant performance.

Nov ’06 to Aug ‘07 Shift Manufacturing Tech. Invista (based ICI, Wilton)

· Responsible for the safe operation of continuous process plant equipment producing nylon intermediates using highly flammable hydrocarbons on a COMAH registered plant.

· The process uses increased pressure and temperature oxidation reactions, flash cooling, catalysed hydrogenation reactions, phase separations, distillation columns and material transfers.

Trained in the operation of emergency shutdown and fire fighting systems.

Mar ‘01 to Oct ‘06 Operating Technician, Nova Chemicals (based Shell Carrington site).

· Responsible for the safe operation of four continuous multi-stage polystyrene production lines, manufacturing both crystal and high impact solid polystyrene on a COMAH registered site. At any one time controlling two lines via a DCS platform.

· Each production line required the use of reduced and high pressure reactors, electrically and hydraulically driven pumps and motors, air actuated control valves, temperature sensitive catalysts, chilled and cooling water systems, steam boilers, oil heating systems, air compressors and product transfer system.

The DCS utilised pressure, temperature, flow and level control loops.

· Controlled the rate of production and product specification according to production requirements following standard operating procedures.

Acted as permit co-ordinator on a rotational basis.

Monitored effluent and process vent emissions following environmental operating guidelines. Monitored receipt and storage of petrochemical starting material.

· Involved in plant start up and shutdown operations. Utilise cause and effect information sheets.

· Trained new staff in all aspects of the operating technician role. Performed analysis of product quality and carried out first line maintenance.

· Liaised with management, technical, instrument, laboratory and maintenance personnel in order to identify and solve plant upsets with minimal disruption to production.

· Involved in the Responsible Care program to improve plant safety and efficiency, including participating in hazard/risk assessments.

· Isolated plant equipment using company equipment isolation procedures and issue permits to work.

Mar ‘99 to Mar ‘01 Shift Supervisor, SynPro Tec Ltd, Manchester

· Responsible for the day to day operation of a pilot/small scale batch manufacturing plant producing synthetic organic chemicals used as intermediates in pharmaceutical, agrochemical, cosmetic products, often using new or infrequently used processes.

Trained in emergency response in accordance with COMAH regulations, including nomination as an out of hours, offsite emergency contact.

· Involved in the continuous improvement of chemical processes and plant equipment. Implemented new working procedures and documentation systems.

Dec ‘97 to Mar ‘99 Production Technologist, Contract Chemicals Ltd, Merseyside

Undertook trials and audited production batch sheets to verify optimum production plant process parameters and assisted in implementing process improvements into standard manufacturing procedures.

Involved in the commissioning of new plant equipment including use of SCADA system.

Supervised plant operators during plant based trials.

May ‘97 to Dec ‘97 Shift Analyst, Analytical Department, Zeneca plc, Huddersfield

Analysed process and final product samples from pharmaceuticals, agrochemical and fine chemical plants using HPLC, GC, TLC, and titroprocessors, working to GLP/GMP regulations. Advised operations staff of necessary adjustment required.

1991 to May 1997 Lab Technician, BNFL, (based at Sellafield)

Performed analysis of water used in cooling and boiler systems, following BS5750 procedures, using wet chemistry techniques, UV/visible spectroscopy, AAS and HPLC. Analysed reactor coolant gases for impurities and levels of radioactive isotopes using gas chromatography and graviametric methods.

Undertook practical work, at laboratory and pilot plant scale, to improve plant processes.
