A total of twenty-seven years experience in the engineering, construction and manufacturing industries, including computer applications.

Experience in the mechanical, piping and structural disciplines in design, checking, material take off and requisitioning, quality assurance, fabrication, construction and commissioning.

Experience in the design and construction of offshore oil and gas production and exploration facilities including the design and equipment layout of FPSO vessels including developing first generation P&IDs, Piping Material Specifications and Material Take-Off for these facilities.

Experience also includes design of petrochemical plants and refineries including both process and utility piping, furnaces, catalytic cracking units, rotating equipment, exchangers and vessels.

Technical education during career has provided a working knowledge of the following computer software packages: Intergraph MicroStation, Intergraph PDS Piping and Equipment, MicaPlus ModelDraft, AutoCAD 2000, AutoPlant (Rebis), Unix, Windows NT, VAX/VMS, Apollo Domain/IX Aegis and DOS Operating Systems, Datatrieve programming, Fortran 77 programming, Advanced Design Analysis programming, Parametric Design programming and GE Calma DDM Dimension III CAD/CAM.

URS Washington Division. Houston, Texas. 10/07 to Present (Office)

As Design Supervisor (Piping) he is responsible for Piping Design and Piping Engineering on the Takreer Sulfur Handling FEED, identifying and estimating facilities required to handle an increase to 8000 TPD of liquid Sulfur received by the Sulfur Handling Terminal (SHT) at the Ruwais Refining Complex in Abu Dhabi. Existing facilities include sulfur granulation, liquid and solid sulfur storage, and an import and export marine terminal. FEED recommendations include ± 15% cost estimates, maintenance, reliability and flexibility considerations and required EPC package scope.


BLACK & VEATCH CORP. Houston, Texas. 06/07 to 10/07 (Office)

As Design Supervisor (Piping) he was responsible for Piping Design and Piping Engineering on the PPGPL (Phoenix) Gas Plant in Port Lisas, Trinidad. Mr. Dearen started as Lead during the week that the project was scheduled to make its first Issue for Construction. As Lead he was able to increase the department’s overall productivity and was able to successfully meet all weekly isometric and ortho issues including Project Milestone’s.


THE ARCTIC SLOPE RESOURCES CORP., Oooguruk, The North Slope, Alaska. 02/07 to 06/07 (Field)

Under contract as Senior Construction Engineer (Mechanical/Piping), he was assigned to the Oooguruk Field Development Project for Pioneer Natural Resources.. The work was comprised of the construction of an offshore Sea Island with drilling, production and accommodations facilities, approximately 6 miles of sub-sea pipeline and 18 miles of surface pipelines, with Onshore GOSP facilities.


FOSTER WHEELER ENGINEERING CORP., Houston, TX. 09/06 to 02/07 (Office)

Under contract as Senior Piping Designer (PDS), he was assigned to the El Segundo Plant Heavy Crude Expansion for Chevron. The Work involved a new Delayed Coker Unit and expansion of the plant’s heavy crude area including supporting areas. His assigned tasks were broad in variation and were primarily regarding the direct support of Area and Project Leads. His familiarity with all software packages and multi-discipline design experiences provided him the privilege of being a “fireman”; resolving challenges immediately as they arose no matter the area of expertise required.

KELLOGG, BROWN & ROOT, Houston, TX. 04/06 to 09/06 (Office)

Under contract as Principal Piping Designer (PDS), he was assigned to the Escravos Gas to Liquid Project for Chevron/NNPC. This project consisted of the conceptual design of a 34,000 barrel-per-day/300 million cubic feet-per-day Gas To Liquids (GTL) products plant in Escravos Nigeria. The project’s major challenge was to develop a completely modularly constructed design to be erected on a site of reclaimed land in the Niger Delta within a fast-track timeframe. The detailed portion of the job was transferred to KBR’s low-cost engineering office in Monterey, Mexico.

FRIEDE & GOLDMAN Naval Architects & Marine Engineers, Houston, TX. 12/05 to 03/06 (Office)

Under contract as Principal Piping Designer, Mike had the privilege of working with one of the oldest and most prestigious offshore mobile drilling & production vessel designers in the world. Mike was assigned to develop a fast-track conceptual design for a state-of-the-art Semi-Submersible Drilling Vessel; Noble Drilling’s “Danny Adkins”. The “Danny Adkins” will be a dynamically positioned, twin-hulled, unit which will be designed for operation in water depths to 10,000 feet in temperate waters with a compliment of over 200 crew.


ALLIANCE ENGINEERING, Houston, TX. 08/05 to 12/05 (Office)

Under contract as Project Piping/Mechanical Coordinator, Mr. Dearen was tasked with the coordination of topsides design efforts on an extremely fast-track Front End Engineering and Design package. The design consisted of a modularly designed O&G Production Topsides to be mated to a MODEC “star-hulled” TLP for Norsk Hydro for use in The Mississippi Canyon (GoM), at record setting 4300’ depth. The completion of the “FEED” was completed as planned, but the field development was post-poned along with a detailed design and construction of this platform.

NATIONAL OILWELL - VARCO., Houston, TX. 05/05 to 08/05 (Fab Yard and Office)

Under contract as Piping/Mechanical/Structural Designer, his duties were as construction engineer on a $150M US project to fabricate, commission and ship two 750 ton Hook Load Masts for the operator, AGIP KCO for use in a unique configuration installed on a man-made Sea Island 50 miles offshore in The Caspian Sea. The two masts along with connecting support and bulk materials storage and handling facilities are included in a modular design. The faculties are similar in their design to with stand elements almost identical to those on The North Slope, Alaska, a National Oilwell specialty – extreme and harsh winter conditions.. The schedule for delivery of these structures is fast track so that they may be on-site prior to Arctic conditions in the sea, prevent movement by barge.


STONE & WEBSTER ENGINEERING CORP., Houston, TX. 12/95 to 05/05 (Field and Office)

As a Sr Lead Piping/Mechanical Designer for the Fired Heater and Furnace Division, he was responsible for furnace and heater design including related piping and equipment, scheduling and coordination, pre engineering and pre construction site survey, specification development, production of mechanical, piping, equipment, support, and structural models/drawings, checking of in house, client provided and vendor provided drawings, material take off and requisitioning, and fabrication/construction supervision.

Field assignments included:
TAIWAN POWER COMPANY, Taipei, R.O.C. – February 2000 ~ July 2000 -Assigned as Sr. PDS Piping Supervisor was part of a “Design Recovery Team” to reorganize/repair the PDS piping and equipment design model. The project, the Lungmen Nuclear Power Project Phase II, is a 1350 Mwe Evolutionary Advanced Water Reactor.
UNION CARBIDE, Taft, La. – March 1999 ~ May 1999 - Assigned as Field Engineer to test, chemically clean and revamp two “192U” cracking furnaces damaged by introduction of high caustic condensate into the steam system.
MOBIL CHEMICAL, Beaumont, TX. – December 1997 ~ March 1999 – Assigned as USC I Unit Engineering Lead. Provide construction support for two new cracking furnaces and the major revamp of six existing furnaces including piperacks. Additionally he was part of a team responsible for design and checking of piping for a new ethylene unit.
PETROCHEMICAL SINGAPORE CORP., Singapore – March 1997 ~ July 1997 – Assigned as Site Representative for a eight cracking furnaces for a grassroots ethylene plant.

ALLIANCE ENGINEERING INC., Houston, Texas 8/95 to 12/95 (Office)

Under contract with PetroTech Services, as Sr. Piping Designer, was assigned to a project to design a Floating Production and Storage Facility for Pogo Producing and SBM Thailand. Project entailed design tasks required to convert a 980 foot tanker to an FPSO.

S&B ENGINEERS & CONSTRUCTORS LTD., Shell DPMC, Deer Park, Texas 2/95 to 8/95 (Field)

As Sr. Piping Checker, was assigned to a project to design and construct a new High Viscosity Index Crude Unit for the Shell Deer Park Manufacturing Complex.

LUMMUS ALIREZA LTD., Zuluf GOSP-2, Arabian Gulf, Saudi Arabia 9/94 to 11/94 (Field)

As Construction Engineer (Piping & Structural), he was assigned to assist in management in the upgrade of the primary GOSP facility in the Zuluf Oilfield. The Work included demolition of Gas Turbines and associated piping, installation of three 3000 h.p. electric shipping pumps with associated piping/structural modifications and upgrade of fire protection systems. Duties included liaison between Saudi Aramco Operations and the construction contractor, The Mohammad Al-Mojil Group, construction monitoring, material control, quality control, progress verification and safety.

LUMMUS ALIREZA LTD., Dammam, Saudi Arabia 5/94 to 8/94 (Office)

As Sr. Design Supervisor, was responsible for design activities on a fast track project to replace failing staged LRGO flare systems on the Saudi Aramco Marjan Field offshore GOSP-2 & GOSP-3 facilities, with 60”, 36” and 16” single tip flare systems, including two new flare support platforms and four new 300’ connecting trusses.

SAUDI ARAMCO PROJECT MANAGEMENT TEAM, Mina Sulman, Bahrain 1/94 to 5/94 (Field)

As Construction Engineer (Piping & Structural), he was seconded from Lummus Alireza Ltd. to Saudi Aramco to assist in management of fabrication of the Marjan TP 1 (4 pile, 3 deck, 1400 ton, with connecting truss) and the Zuluf TP 5 and TP 6 (6 pile, 2 deck, 900+ ton) tie in platforms through loadout. Duties included liaison between Saudi Aramco and the fabrication contractor, Offshore Pipelines Inc., fabrication monitoring, quality control, processing of Field Change Requests, progress verification and safety.

As Sr. Design Supervisor, worked on a several small completion projects for Saudi Aramco’s Offshore Completions Group, consisting of mainly wellhead hook ups for oil production and water injection facilities.
