This is a brief description of variety of jobs, cargo operations/handling and ballasting/de-ballasting operations I’ve been involved during my seagoing career started from 1998.
I’ve started as a 3rd deck officer on a bulk carrier, and at that time my main duties was LSA and Fire Fighting equipment maintenance, supervision, testing along with watch keeping and cargo operation supervision. During my 3rd and 2nd officer’s career I was also responsible for preparing of safety and fire drills scenarios.
In 2002 I was working on board of Semi Submersible Heavy Lift Vessel “Smit Enterprise”. During my stay on board in April-May, we’ve been involved in loading and carrying of “Charley Graves”. That was a drilling unit belonged to “Transocean Sedco Forex”. We’ve took her at Congo and brought her to Singapore to Dry Dock. To do that job we had to submerge for about 5-6 meters to allow her to float inside, and after that pumped out ballast to emerge.
Since 2004 until present I’m working as a chief officer mainly on dry cargo vessels. During my service as a chief officer It was under my solely responsibility to ballast and de-ballast ship to maintain positive ship’s stability during entire loading or discharging operations. I am also responsible for calculation/maintaining of ship’s stability and bending moments/shear forces calculation. The calculations had to be done for any condition of loading, taking into consideration consumption of consumables, and load distribution. I’m also experienced in monitoring of various deck loads.
During dry docking I also inspected ballast tanks and ballast equipment (pumps and pipes).
My last employment was as chief officer/JDPO on an ROV Support DP1 vessel.
