Responsibilities: Safety procedures for explosives, drilling, blasting, dredging, surveying and excavation. Emergency management on water, inspection of rigs, tugs and heavy machinery, safety meetings, toolbox meetings, bunkering and hazardous chemicals management, quality control, pollution control, environmental management and wildlife protection.
Hazards reporting, incident investigations, inductions of new personnel and internal safety audit. Responsible also for management of two subcontractors Seawest and Van Oord.

Burrup Fertilizer Project – Construction and Commissioning of largest single train ammonia plant in the world
Responsibilities: Whilst working for the client I was responsible for construction inspections and reviewing safety issues of various contractors working on site. I have worked closely with plant commissioning and operations team on continuous plant safety improvements through progression of commissioning activities. I had to notify the contractors on daily basis of plant status and hazards as related to start up progress. This required updating JHAs and permits to suit current situation at all times.
Conducted spot checks on implementation of permit to work system to ensure compliance with Permit To Work Regulations. Types of permits I had experience with were: confined space, hot work, electrical testing (CTT), excavation and backfill, heavy transport and lifting, construction activities such as insulation, scaffolding, vehicles, plant and machinery. Commissioning activities involved vessel and line pressure testing, nitrogen pressurization, air blows for pipe cleaning, hydrotesting, pneumatic testing of boilers and pipework, catalyst loading, pipe flushing, leak test of boilers and energizing of plant and equipment.
I was reviewing MSDSes for hazardous substances coming onto plant.
I introduced vehicle exclusion zone policy and contraband policy for active area of the plant.
I was also involved interface meetings, JSA’s and SWIs for construction and commissioning equipment start up eg chlorination plant, reformers, boilers, heaters, converters etc.
I was in charge of training of existing and newly employed personnel on behalf of the client in general site rules, permit to work system, operations and commissioning procedures as well as general construction and site specific requirements PPE, contraband, vehicle policy. I also attended contract meetings, chaired weekly safety meetings with safety reps and / or safety managers.
Supplementary duties: Incident reports and investigations. Emergency response management and training. Liaison officer role in the emergency drills.
I have been acting as a Site Safety Coordinator for three weeks straight over Christmas and from there on quite regularly for shorter periods when Safety manager was on leave.

Identification of hazards generally and control and management of risk.
