A Mechanical Engineer with extensive management, operational and project management and project engineering experience.

Worked at management level with the following responsibilities: Strategy, HSE-Q, engineering, planned maintenance and risk management of the company’s assets internationally.

Successfully managed and completed multi US$m projects throughout South Africa, Angola, Dubai, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania, Comoros and Uganda. Work experience has been both site-based and at company headquarters and has included responsibility for budgeting, cost control, forecasts, projections and strategic proposals, manpower and business assets, including plant and equipment, diving and saturation diving equipment, mobilisations and demobilisations onto DP2 DSVs and barges.

Practical, hands-on exposure and experience in the scope of Marine, Subsea and Mechanical Engineering, substantial and extensive involvement in the administration and general management of the head and regional office scenario, as well as project management from conception to completion of offshore field development, installations and IRM projects.

A committed and dedicated worker whose site experience has exposed him to a variety of challenging and difficult situations. His knowledge of Africa and the Far East and the working conditions in these regions is considerable. Position: Asset Manager - Subsea

Type of firm: Marine Salvage/Towage/Terminal Operator/Subsea Projects

Responsibilities: Manager at SMIT Subsea managing all non-vessel assets for Subsea projects globally. Assets include Saturation diving systems as well as surface supply dive systems. Management of budget, strategic management of location/rotation of assets to meet operational requirements, planned maintenance systems, modification to equipment, equipment specifications, and new asset purchases.

Responsibilities: Project managed 9 Man saturation diving system including ROV for Puffin project field development. Workscope continued onto Bass Straits for riser repair project until the end of the year. Responsibilities included client liaison, commercial aspects and invoicing.

Mar – Aug 2007 SMIT Marine Projects - Subsea

Position: Equipment Technical Superintendent

Type of firm: Offshore Oil & Gas Diving contractor

Responsibilities: Complete re-fit of 9 man Saturation system. Back engineering of system for submission to class to get system class approval. System required to also meet NOPSA approvals to work in Australian waters. Worked with a team of engineers, technicians and draughtsmen to complete engineering package for submission to Class. Interim certificate of class and Diving Systems Safety Certificate (DSSC) obtained. Mobilisation of system onto DPII DSV Harvila Harmony for project in Australian Waters.


Nov – Dec 2006 SMIT Subsea

Position: Mobilisation Superintendent

Type of firm: Offshore Oil & Gas Diving contractor

Responsibilities: 9 Man Saturation diving system repair and maintenance of system to IMCA standards for 1 month before mobilisation. Mobilisation and commissioning of system onto a lay barge – Castoro 10, this included deck plan layout. Carried out complete IMCA audit on system once commissioned before vessel sailed to work site.


Apr – Sep 2005 SMIT Subsea

Position: Project Manager

Type of firm: Offshore Oil & Gas Diving contractor

Responsibilities: Project managed 6 man Saturation dive project in Mediterranean Sea for Saipem from mobilisation of equipment through to Workscope – pipelay and tie-ins until demobilisation and project completion.

Mar – Apr 2005 SMIT Subsea

Position: Asset Engineer

Type of firm: Offshore Oil & Gas Diving contractor

Responsibilities: Addition of dedicated self launch HRC A-frame to 6 man system for independent launching of HRC over the side of vessel. Addition included reconfiguration of HRC to ensure mating flanges aligned with the now A-frame base under the unit. Addition of a hydraulic ram operated platform to pull HRC off chamber before lifting and launching using the A-frame.

Jan – Feb 2005 SMIT Subsea Services

Position: Asset Engineer

Type of firm: Offshore Oil & Gas Diving contractor

Responsibilities: Upgrade 6 man Saturation diving system to include divers gas reclaim unit. Upgrade included installation of unit and integration into existing system including bell and dive control unit fit out.


Jun – Sep 2004 SMIT Terminals West Africa

Position: Asset Engineer

Type of firm: Offshore Oil & Gas Diving contractor

Responsibilities: Upgrade of 4 Man Saturation diving system to a 6 man system plus the addition of a 6 Man HRC. Upgrade included integration of external regen system to condition additional chamber. System build was done to IMCA standards and witnessed by Lloyds Register.


Apr – May 2004 SMIT Terminals

Position: Equipment Manager

Type of firm: Offshore Oil & Gas Diving contractor

Responsibilities: Surface Mixed Gas diving spread with complete built in inspection suite, new build to IMCA standards with decompression chamber to Lloyds Class. System included 3 diver mixed gas panel, divers LARS and machinery container. Complete fit out, testing and commissioning.
