1. Summary (Cover Letter) - CV/Resume Part 1 [Mandatory]

Dear Sir/Madam

Production Operator/Technician
I would like to take this opportunity to apply for a position within your Organisation in the Offshore Production side of your industry.
Currently I work as a Chemical Process Operator for Macfarlan Smith, Johnson Matthey. Macfarlan Smith, is a world leader in the production of alkaloid opiates and other controlled drugs. I have held this position for nearly 6 years. My duties are listed in full as follows:
• Manufacture of Bulk Opiates.
• To perform chemical reactions according to batch and process instructions as requested.
• Monitor chemical reactions via gauges, signals (audible and visual) and computer control board.
• Operate vales and controls: regulate temperatures; pressure and flow of process through systems to ensure prescribed reaction in a timely manner and proper sequence and to ensure safe operation and environmental integrity to of the plant. Operate mechanical and electro-mechanical material handling equipment as required.
• Carry out distillations (Vacuum and atmospheric), Batch Transfers using centrifugal pumps.
• Monitor of temperatures using heat exchangers.
• Knowledge of how to operate scrubbing towers.
• Maintain log of gauge readings, lab results, shift production and equipment malfunction. Ensure accurate completion of all documentation relevant to production and plant process.
• To weigh and check materials and containers and record the weight as appropriate.
• To dispense liquids to and from drum stocks and bulk supplies and to record the quantities dispensed.
• Troubleshoot operational problems.
• Issue and Monitor work orders/permits as part of fire team duties.
• Perform maintenance within my capabilities and prepare equipment for maintenance.
• Utilise verbal and written means of communication in order to send information on problems, shift production and lab results to supervisor and shift relief.
• Respond to auditor warnings of emission or other problems.
• Follow plant procedures for start-up, shut down, cleaning and batching.
• To perform and record cleaning procedures for vessels and plant as appropriate in accordance with cGMP.
• To clean drums, tanks and other containers for disposal or re-use.
• To ensure that waste materials, or waste streams for analysis or otherwise are appropriately handled and labelled.
• To carry out in process sampling and in-process testing as required.
• Ensure safe working practices are implemented at all times by myself and others. Report any safety issue or problem to supervisor and EHS Manager.
• To be aware of the quality checks and documentation necessary to maintain good quality finished product and to carry out and record these checks (Good Manufacturing Practice – GMP).
• To accept the security responsibilities of the operation.
• Read standard operating procedures (SOP) and familiarise self with operating, maintenance and safety procedures. Provide insight and updates on these procedures as applicable.
• To assist with the operation of plant and equipment in the introduction of new products and the development of existing processes.
• To ensure that the work area and machinery is maintained and in a clean and tidy condition.
• Use of forklift/Pallet Truck.
• Other duties not listed here-in but which need to be accomplished to maintain safe and productive day-to-day operations within the plant.
• Assist in the training of new operators on plant operations.
Active and current member of internal fire team. I work to provide emergency on site support and assistance in the event of an internal fire. Assist in evacuating site, fire fighting as necessary and to liaise with local fire brigade. I have recently been fully trained with Edinburgh and Lothian’s Fire Brigade on the use of breathing apparatus use and undertook practical exercises in search and rescue and combating fires. I have ongoing training as a member of the fire team and am due to undertake Confined Space Training. I also regularly deal with chemical and gas leaks, provide support on advice on how to deal with and resolve these spillages. Trained on how to carry out search and rescue if required. This part of my role within Macfarlan Smith has continuous ongoing training
My current position as a Chemical Process Operator has allowed me to gain experience in the process industry. With working in the chemical industry I am well aware of relevant safety procedures and of the need and use of PPE etc and I strictly follow the instructions given by my employer.
My full career history is listed in the attached CV. I have not as yet sat my Offshore Survival Certificate or had my offshore medical but if a suitable position were to arise, I would be more than happy to arrange my survival course and medical.

On-going safety checks and training relevant to this area is included and a vital part of my role within Macfarlan Smith.
