2. Work Experience - CV/Resume Part 2 [Mandatory]

I worked with the Local Ambulance Service since 1983 but was approached by Mossgas in 1996 to do offshore contract work, as the pay was much more than what I was earning.

I’ve been doing relief work as a Medic on the offshore FA Platform off Mossel bay for the Past Nine years, on an as and when required basis. Other contracts was on the Omega, South Seas Driller and the Orca also situated off the Coast of Mossel Bay.I also worked on the Ocean Liberator, which was up in the Congo on the West African coast.
My duties there were Medic/Safety.

Been working under HSE& Suppliers in Paarden Eiland since May 1996.
Also able to deal with problems in a logical manner, creative and able to work with all different types of people as part of a team.
My contribution is full commitment to the job at hand.


Working on offshore platforms and drill ships ( rigs )

On this type of installation the medic has about 90 to 162 people on board to attend to.
The daily duties include the issuing of medicines for example aches and pains, common colds and many other ailments etc…
On board we are authorized to supply medicine without the prescription of a medical practitioner as we have a permit from the Dept of health. From the 2nd May 2004 will have to have the Dispensing Course.
Drugs kept onboard are Diazepam, Morphine, or Tramal, Pethidine Dormicum Largactil, etc…
We also do suturing on board and any other minor trauma related injuries when necessary. Most of the work done is also like the ALS on the Ambulances.
Administration duties include working with the computer 90% of your time as most of the work is on the hard drive. Programs are Ms Word 2000, Ms Excel, QHSE database, Medicare QHSE, CAMM, DDB, these are some of the programs I Work with including SAP R/3, and the PTS Program for Coordinating flights to and from the Oil Rigs.

Delivery of babies in all conditions and complications, Prolapsed cord management, Breech Birth, Obstructed labour management Etc…

Helicopter rescue
Rescuing people trapped in accidents using the “Jaws of Life”.
ECG monitoring and using the Life pack 5 (Defibrillator) and the AED also
IV Therapy
Use of ventilators
Endotracheal Intubation
Bag-valve-tube- reservoir nebulization
Needle Cricothorocotomy
Thorocotomy
Needle Thoracentesis
Catheterization in Males
Declaration of Death
Flying with the Red Cross air mercy flight (Critical Patients)
Flying with the Bell Jet Ranger during our festive season monitoring roads, Beaches
Transporting sick and injured patients for example: stroke, diabetes, heart attack and assault victims, incubator transfers, unconsciousness and epilepsy patients etc...
Disaster Management and Triage
Giving CPR lectures to schools and big companies
Training new staff in Ambulance control Room (Dispatching and Ambulance)
Training new staff for the Basic Ambulance Course
Buying new medical stock and uniforms


Medic Responsibilities Rigs:

• Administration – General Administration, Computer Literate, Record keeping, Stock Control, Set up of Standard Operating Procedures.
• Managing the POB, and Updating the SAPR/3 System.
• Managing the Bedding Allocation
• Orientation for new Arrivals
• Hygiene Inspections and Monthly Water Testing
• Urine /Alcohol Testing done randomly
• Checking eye wash stations and stretcher inspections
• Patient care on a daily basis, Dispensing medicines ect..
• First Line Accident treatment and general treatment
• Consult with shore base Doctors when required
• Maintain crew member medical records both computerized and in hard copy in a confidential manner.
• Maintain file of all First Aid Certified personnel

• Monitor ongoing health of offshore crew complement fit for work status
• Training of Personnel to level one First Aid Responder and also on the AED
• Monthly Medical Presentations for the Crew
• Evaluation of Emergency Response plans with the OIMS
• Training with the ERT Team ( Creating scenarios casualty handling and patient stabilization )
• Updating Muster list on a daily Basis
• Planning ahead: One month Look ahead Regarding Visitors, Service Hands ect..
• Doing Crew Timesheets for the end of the Month
• Communicating to all different Companies
• Daily Contact with Onshore supervisors regarding personal changes
• Supervise and control logistical and support activities of operations and project activities
Regarding Helicopter / Boat operations and personnel /freight Movements
• Report directly to the Offshore Installation Manager
• Daily call to Ops Co-coordinators on and Offshore
