Dear Sirs

I am writing to enquire about suitable vacancies you might have on one of your oil-rigs for someone with my qualifications and experience. I do realize that I am applying without having been invited to do so, or knowing if you have any vacancies open at present. However, I think the time has come to take on a new challenge and I would like to take this opportunity to explain a little about myself.

As you can see in my CV, most of my experience was gathered in the hotel and catering business,
in various positions as Sous-chef and Kitchenchef in Switzerland, Holland and the United States. I have been co-owner of a Sportsbar-restaurant in Lucerne, Switzerland and have had my own business as a Personal Chef for multiple customers in the Chicagoland-area in the US.

My background has afforded me many "intangible" qualifications one can't learn from a book. Qualities such as resourcefulness, insight, adaptability and pride, combined with a driven, reliable and communicative personality with an honest work ethic make me believe these skills would bring a valuable combination of assets to your company.

I realize that safety regulations are on a very high level in the offshore industry but I am willing to participate in any additional courses to meet with these requirements.
