Additionally, the role contributes to the maintenance of health and safety systems to conform to operational requirements: the maintenance of a safe working environment to comply with the safety management system and SOLAS: the development and maintenance of a health and safety culture at the workplace: the reporting, investigation and follow up of accidents and incidents: present demonstrations and information and perform general security and heli-administration duties: Monitor and maintain pollution control measures: carry out the duties of On Scene Commander in the event of emergency.

2000 – 2002 Chief Instructor Fire Fighting
A multi-faceted role with primary responsibility to provide Fire Fighting and Crash Rescue training for all Aircraft Handler fire fighter specialists’ career courses with additional responsibility to provide training for all Naval personnel posted to operate with rotary/fixed wing aircraft both afloat and ashore. Duties included contractor interface, manpower co-ordination for a staff of 35, setting training performance standards and monitoring progress. Setting, co-ordinating and enforcing all fire training safety measures and enforcing the same throughout all Fleet Air Arm fire training courses. Liaising with environmental agencies to ensure environmental standards were maintained during fire training. Coordinator for an NVQ awarding centre responsible to the awarding body for indoctrination, tuition, assessing, internal verification and accreditation of NVQ Level II Fire Fighter to all Naval Airman Aircraft Handler fire fighters. Accountable for 6 Fire Crash appliances, associated training / industrial stores and fire training facilities to the value of £4.5 million. Manager directly responsible for the administration, career development, welfare and professional discipline of 35 training and support staff.
1997 – 2000 Fire Prevention Officer
A diverse role holding responsibility for fire safety and health and safety induction and continuation training presentations for a work force in excess of 4000, always ensuring that current appropriate regulations were applied. Other duties included: The planning, execution and co-ordination of whole establishment fire exercises. Acting as Incident Commander co-ordinating all disaster scene on site emergency services. The maintenance of first aid fire appliances and automated/manual alarm systems on a 630 acre site with 650 + buildings. Directly responsible for departmental fire management plans and annual fire and health and safety inspections producing comprehensive written reports. Welfare and administration manager for a workforce of 35. Briefing and liaising with contractors to authorise and record issues of ‘Permit to Work’ certificates.
1994 – 1997 Fire Training Officer
Analysing continuation training requirements and designing suitable programs to maintain and continually implement mandatory Air Authority standards. Primarily responsible for maintaining the professional ability and safety of 45 fire fighters of all ranks to Home Office standards. Maintenance and timely updating of both fire training theoretical and practical demonstrations materials. Liaising with other fire authorities and outside agencies to schedule and promote joint brigade training. Design, implementation and delivery of lectures, briefs, fire exercises, drills and driver training in fire and crash rescue procedures. Maintenance of personnel training records and performance monitoring systems.
1991 – 1994 Flight Deck Officer
Accountable for the professional conduct, safety, training and overall supervision of 18 civilian and MoD Flight Deck personnel in aircraft crash rescue operations and procedures. Responsible for all embarked helicopters and ancillary equipment (over 68m). Responsible to the Captain for the control of flight deck flying operations, aircraft emergency and rescue procedures afloat and aircraft deck movements. Air department Co-ordinator for 12 personnel responsible for planning, administration, duty rotas, discipline and career guidance.
