Project Title : Development of 400W Hydrogen Generator based on solid polymer
Electrolyte membrane electrolyser (SPEM) sponsored by MNES
To produce an alternate energy (hydrogen) economically is one of the worldwide emerging researches going on at present. The renewable energy prevents the global warming effect produced by the conventional energy systems such as fossil fuel and other heat-trapping gaseous and save the nature. Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe and is found on earth as a component of water. Hydrogen can be produced from water through electrolysis, which involves splitting water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen by running an electric current between submerged electrodes.
The developed electrolyser (cell) is totally 100cm2 in area with current density of 1 Ampere per cm2 in bipolar mode and the terminal voltage is 2V per cell. The system is designed to deliver 1400cc of hydrogen gas per minute i.e. 84 liters per hour, oxygen gas delivery is 700cc per minute i.e. 42 liters per hour.

The production of H2 by electrochemical splitting of water is one of the great practical importances. Water Electrolysis poses tough demands in spite being a single electrochemical reaction.
Work Experience in Water Electrolyzer Project:
a) To provide electronic control for the whole system from providing Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS) for power up the electrolyser to analyzing the output gaseous (Hydrogen and Oxygen) for purity, pressure, temperature, relative humidity, water purity etc, using transducers / sensors.
The whole system is governed by embedded control Microcontroller 8051 which automatically controls the system operation as per pre-written program with on-time signals from various transducers.
b) Designing and developing Printed Circuit Board (PCB) for various electronics circuits.
c) Indent preparation, testing and commissioning of various electronics equipments/items.
d) Preparing presentation documents, project report, project related drawings using computer
with various software.
e) Membrane electrode Assembly.
f) Testing of PEM water Electrolyzer.
g) Assembling, testing and running of fuel cell.
