In charge of U/G project using PDS and Microstation from initial systems layout to detailed engineering design of gravity plant drainage systems including Chemical drain, Wastewater system, Oily Water System, Storm Drain, for this coal-to-gas plant using rainfall and firewater rates. Drainage area calculations using Rational equation and Manning formula application for pipe sizing and sloping. Tie-ins for C/W and Firewater systems and design and layout for these systems. Producing construction isometrics U/G Layout GA’s and design standards for catchbasins, pits, cleanouts and riser details.
Responsible for client liaison and detailed explanation of design philosophy and method to client during client reviews as well as incorporating client requirements.
Within the Underground Piping Core Team, to provide engineering assistance in design and production phase of other projects.

Systems design includes:
Design of 1/200 Aromatic Closed drain system for unit 10.
Preparation of Technical Bid Evaluation Report for vendor’s Commercial Proposal from Future Pipe Industries and Ameron, for the supply of GRE pipe. Proposals failed due to lack of adherence to Foster Wheeler RFI’s, and possible non-compliance due to unsatisfactory ratio of glass content by weight. Returned to purchasing department to pursue further information. Meetings with FPi vendor for GRE regarding jointing lamination and bonding methods, failure rates and technical other factors missing from proposal. Direct contact with FPi to clarify scope of works and tie ins / methods.
PDS design of UG OWS sloping drainage system in 150# CS. Civil underground piping and trenching design and layout. Drainage, paving and sewer systems: In unit 8 Naphtha Hydrotreater, unit 10 CCR Reformer, and unit 15 LPG Fractionation, working for the drainage engineer to divide the plant areas into catch basins no larger than 230m sq. Drainage designed for a 1 hour rainfall intensity based on BEDDS and 10 year recurrence. Design of gravity OWS sewer system using Hazen-William formula with full bore capacity. Open channel to Manning formula. Responsible for detailed underground engineering services design and materials requisition. Routing for storm water system / oily water system tie-in to existing site drainage, cable routings and trench section detailing, sanitary water and effluent treatment systems.
Fire-water extension and modification, and new fire fighting systems layout for each new plant area. 14” GRE FW main changing to CS Cement lined for above ground interconnection. Solved layout and design problem re: design of GRE adaptors and coupling to precipitate valve removal instead of piping’s flanged elbow option. Design of concrete foundations and fixings.
Tie-in with existing FW system and routing of fire main to newly located temporary Warehouse. Underground ring-main design with 2” branches. Design to allow for permanent works interconnection after disinvestment.
PDS 3D modelling and production of isometrics, MTO and Materials Requisition for all piping materials.
2. Shell Woodside. PDS underground piping design / layout and construction isometric production for Woodside LNG Train 5. Site prep area: Disinvestment of original pumped sewer line south of new tie-in, extended service routed underground using site survey road details and paving plans for elevations, and bulk earthworks plan service trenches and composite services details. Design at pump pits. To run new Tool air and Nitrogen lines to rotor storage area and new SKM workshop. Where underground to galvanize-coat and double wrap short lengths without cathodic protection, elevation set at 900 cover, 1200 under roads, using workshop paving and trench set out plans and surveys. AG sloping lines to run partially beside road, 300 above grade on sleepers, using road cross / longitudinal sections with camber transitions to obtain elevations. To design stress loops for long distances and guides and anchor supports.
Site prep Workshop fire-main design from PEF. Tie-in to original CS concrete lined fire-main with slip-on flange, and spec change to GRE. Location of hydrants using paving plans, and UG elevation from earthwork plans avoiding communications and data-link trenches.
Microstation General Arrangement drawings for UG services supply. UG services MTO and preparation of Material Requisitions.
Main Civil 400NB GRE fire-main with transition to CS galvanised UG with concrete block support for hydrants and monitors, liaison with piping for interface with fire fighting fixed water spray systems.
Various 600NB to 1000NB OCW Sewer GRE drain lines interconnecting liquid gas traps and open drain channels.

In charge of the Kings Lynn, Anglian Water site for Laing O’Rourke. Hired primarily to resolve the problems that have stopped construction on-site resulting from poor AFC design layout with lack of consideration for equipment access. This was amplified by site compacting layout further due to the constraints of newly discovered existing underground services resulting in the unapproved purchase of smaller process equipment kiosks. Anglian Water wished to remove all the equipment and kiosks installed thus far. Using AutoCAD 2004, I redesigned layout of wash water and poly dosing units: Wash-Water kiosk: Duplex filter moved outside kiosk, with UG piping, PD indicators and air vent added to AG pocketed line. W.W tank rotated inside kiosk and piping changed from MDPE to PVCu PN16 smaller fittings, some piping run outside kiosk to allow access. Poly-dosing kiosk: Instructed instruments to move cable tray and relocate electric boxes and trace heating panel to enable poly tank to move into corner to allow more access and room for w.w booster pump and poly dosing unit. IP55 Peristaltic pump moved outside kiosk. In meeting with Anglian Water management, design was approved with the existing kiosks. Supervising and liaising with construction effort and producing as-built layouts.
Pipe supports DI BSEN598. Pumping Station Piping. Stairways, platforms and ladders to BS39741. P&ID development and mechanisation.
Denton Lodge Reservoir, Anglian Water: New storage tank, underground control sets pits and piping, tie-ins. Ductile iron 400NB, valve chambers and pipe routings. General arrangement and P&ID production.

Unit 1400 North, using PDMS, responsible for equipment design and layout of towers, condensers and reflux drums followed by all process piping and cooling water distribution. In charge of generation and annotation of all vessel detail drawings for all areas of the plant, using PDMS Draft, followed by a write up of shell script/draft operating instructions for future users. Also GA production using Draft.
Statoil KUP, Karstø LNG Project, Norway. LNG Train modelling and design of underground piping tie-ins using PDS for isometric production. Extraction and annotation of GA’s from the design model using Vector Hidden Line Manager.
Conoco Clean Fuels Project, Diesel Hydrodesulphuriser, Humberside. In a group of four responsible for front-end design including plot plan development, equipment design, structures, civils and piping. Personally tasked to design fractionation column nozzle orientation elevations and piping, exchanger layout and piping design using PDS.
