WORK HISTORY

Dec 2006 – Now (Lead) Workshop Technician, Sakhalin Energy

Spent this time in the workshop of Sakhalin Energy’s LNG/OET plant located on Sakhalin Island. This is the largest integrated oil and gas project in the world currently, comprised of 2 LNG trains and 1 crude oil export terminal.

In this role I have been responsible for maintaining various types of pumps (single stage, multistage, and submerged) of various services (crude oil, hydrocarbon condensate, water, etc.). Maintenance carried out includes bearing replacement, mechanical seal inspection / replacement (from single cartridge to dual pressurised cartridges), and wear ring & impeller inspection / replacement.

I have also been responsible for testing, inspecting and overhaul of relief valves brought to the workshop. This involves testing lift pressures, and seat leakage rates on the test bench. It also involves stripping down, inspecting, overhauling and resetting the valves as required.

Likewise, I have been responsible for overhauling control valves brought to the workshop (usually involving seal replacement or lapping plugs to seats), and then testing them for leakage rates and body tightness.

I am also required to operate all Workshop machinery to fabricate new parts as requested by the Utilities or Process areas. This involves following engineering drawings and use of lathes, milling machines, radial arm drills, bandsaws, mechanical hacksaws etc. to achieve this.

In this position I am also responsible for training the Russian national staff in correct maintenance practices, as well as acting as Workshop Supervisor in his absence.

Feb 2006 – Dec 2006 Mechanical Technician, Rosyth Marine Services

Spent this time based in Rosyth Royal Dockyard, maintaining RMS’s fleet of service vessels. This involved carrying out maintenance to machinery on support tugs, fuel barges, sludge barges, fresh water barges etc.

During this time I gained maintenance experience on the following equipment;
- diesel engines (injector replacement / overhaul, routine inspection and measuring of liners, pistons, rings etc. for wear).
- pumps (as previously covered) – overhaul and correct alignment
- compressors (valve overhaul & replacement, routine inspection & measuring of parts for wear)
- winches / gearboxes (inspections and bearing replacement)
- cranes (routine inspections)

2004 – 2006 Marine Engineering Officer, BP Shipping Ltd.

I spent this time working as a marine engineer onboard LNG carriers with BP, sailing between the UAE and Japan.

During this period I was responsible for carrying out maintenance to ships plant in the Utilities / Engine room section. This involved working on the following equipment:

- Auxiliary generator engines (as covered previously)
- Boilers (burner overhaul)
- Centrifugal purifiers (seal changes, bearing replacement)
- Compressors (as covered previously)
- Pumps (as covered previously) & positive displacement types (reciprocating & scroll)
- Heat exchangers (tube & plate types)

Sailing with the Shell fleet of LNG tankers as an engineering officer, the duties of which are almost identical to those described with BP shipping.

This meant ensuring work was carried out to meet company standards and the permit to work system was adhered to at all times.

1999 - 2002 Engineering Cadet, Shell Ship Management Ltd.

Engineering trainee with Shell. Spent this time as a trainee engineer on the Shell fleet of oil & LNG carriers, learning about maintenance practice first hand.
