2. Work Experience - CV/Resume Part 2 [Mandatory]

August 2001 to present Atwood Oceanics Pacific LimitedElectrical Technician: To maintain all drilling electrical power and instrumentation systems on a semi submersible drilling unit. Below are the details of my current position along with extensive details of my experience.Working on a semi-sub drilling rig, offshore Angola in the position of electronics technician. Duties include the repair and maintenance of all electronic equipment onboard, along with the electrical equipment associated with this, such as variable speed AC and DC drives both VFD and SCR types. In addition I have responsibility for health and safety, budget forecasts and expenditure, training of local craftsmen and supervision of third party contractors. Much of the control systems for the motor drives involve PLC’s; manufactured by Siemens, running Simatic and Directsoft software, Allan Bradley SLC5 and SLC500’s with RSLogix500, and Mitsubishi PLC’s with FXGP. Most of the communications networks involved with these systems are via fibre optics, and I have extensive experience with these. I maintain a fully computer controlled system for the rigs stability and ballasting with remote control and alarm monitoring of the pumps and valves associated with these tasks. This again uses Allan Bradley SLC500 PLC’s running RSLogix5000 along with Devicenet and Controlnet via fibre optic networks.A drilling monitoring system, mainly incorporating conventional 4-20mA and 0-10vdc sensors, alongside a fibre optic coupled computer LAN with touch screen and remote displays is also part of the equipment that I maintain. This equipment makes extensive use of intrinsically safe and explosion-proof components, all of which I have many years of experience with.We have an extensive CCTV system, including deep-water cameras with fibre optic transmission, again which I have a lot of experience of the maintenance and repair. I am also the rigs systems administrator for the computer LAN and telephone system onboard, the LAN being a fibre optic and 100baseTX Ethernet set up. I have extensive knowledge of setting up networks from the cable and fibre installation to individual workstation configuration.I have also worked as the Rig electrician as and when required and can fill this position with equal ease. These duties include the maintenance and repair of all electrical equipment onboard. I am familiar with high voltage generation & switchgear (6kv), low voltage generation and switchgear, refrigeration & air-conditioning, PA/GA equipment, AC/DC motors & associated control gear, personnel elevators, motorised valves, all types of lighting, HP and LP air compressors, hydraulic pumps and circuits, and batteries and associated chargers.During my time with this installation, I have been involved from start to finish in a $120,000,000 upgrade to the rig, dealing with the complete replacement of all the electrical and electronics equipment.Mar 2001 to August 2001 KCA Drilling Limited, AberdeenElectrician To maintain all drilling electrical power and instrumentation systems on a Shell fixed platform drilling package.Dec 2000 to Mar 2001 ModuSpec Engineering (Intl) BVFreelance Offshore SurveyorOct 1992 to Nov 2000 R B Falcon, Houston, USAD.P. 3 Class Drill Ship built 1999, with V.I.C.I.S. M. M. I. Varco Systems and Sami Megastar VFD drives propulsion drives.3300 Kv . Vessel management / power management / DP control system by Nautronics, as a Shift rig Electrician. Drilling Equipment Specialist (Based in USA)Projects undertaken during time spent in the Electrical Engineering office in Houston Jackup J. T. Angel: Undertake and complete survey for the installation and procurement of a replacement and up to date telephone system using a solid state PABX system. This system also provided an alarm tone generator to provide all emergency alarm tones. This system also had the facility to provide communication for all land based data and telephone conversations. Jackup C. E. Thornton: Undertake and complete survey for the installation and procurement for a replacement gas detection system, to provide L.E.L. and H2s gas detection and alarms. Semi-submersible Jim Cunningham: Undertake re-work of the logic control for the skagit anchor winch system, to provide enhanced control of running and retrieving anchors, after operating water depth up-grade Houston office Based Electrical Engineering Support: Self-erecting Drilling tender. W. D. Kent: Upon the total loss of the W. D. Kent self erecting platform drilling package.I was briefed to undertake the electrical engineering for all electrical systems including procurement of all new electrical drilling equipment. Also, all associated drilling instrumentation including personnel, to build a replacement drilling package which would have A.B.S. certification for zone 1 hazardous area certification, to operate in world wide drilling operations. The design and build program was undertaken within a 12 month period to commissioning. The brief also included the electrical up-grade to provide enhanced A.C. and D.C. power systems to meet the current drilling needs. The A.C. power was increased by using the up-graded G.E. generators, including replacement of the existing 750 K.V.A. ships service transformers, with 2 x 1250 K.V.A. forced fan cooled units. The transformer room space was also air conditioned. This would enable one transformer to operate at full K.V.A. capability, if required to provide all 480 A.C. power requirements upon the closing of the A and B bus tie.The tender barge accommodation was also increased by 1 level, this included a dedicated plant room containing all electrical and H.V.A.C. systems. The tender accommodation and machinery rooms, including the drilling package deck areas and pressurized M.C.C. room, were all equipped with smoke dampers and controlled by a fire/smoke and gas detection system. This system operated on a redundant self-addressing data loop system, displaying all alarm indication on L.C.D. display and a cause and effect matrix. The cause and effect matrix was written by myself to meet the A.B.S. requirements and to provide a system that was suitable for drilling operations. Upon certain alarm condition the fire and gas system would trip A.C. and D.C. drive breakers, supplying equipment to maintain installation fire and gas safety integrity. The S.C.R. control system was upgraded to a P.L.C. based control system, to provide drive assignments and controlThe new electrical design approach to the electrical systems on the drilling package, had the added benefit of reducing the number of power and control cables on the electrical supply cable bridal, by 50%.
