More than 20 years of experience, 11+ of which were in Shell International pensionable employ, of oil & gas operations both offshore, onshore & process plants; this experience covers engineering design, construction, commissioning, maintenance, operations planning & execution, both upstream & downstream, integrated field operations, planning & training aspects in line & staff management roles. Successfully trained indigenous staff, adaptable to various social cultures & successfully worked with 100% indigenously staffed sections.

Typical management roles have been Field Operations Manager & Chief Maintenance & Construction Superintendent for Lasmo Oil in Indonesia supervising operation, maintenance, construction & commissioning of offshore & onshore pipelines & processing stations & O&M of an FPSO.

Also been Head Asset Planner for the Northern Asset Group of Sarawak Operations (SKO) in Malaysia.

Reporting to the Head of Production, responsible for the efficient data collection & prediction of integrated hydrocarbons production quantities both short- & long-term.

Fully responsible for the efficient planning of the export of 165 Mbbls/d sweet oil, 90 Mbbls/d 'sour' condensate & 24 Mscm/d 'sour' gas plus 16 Mscm/d gas injection via a complex of 3 plants.

Fully responsible for the drafting of the annual Production hydrocarbons production budget which is formulated following 'Risk Analysis' on the hi/lo potentials for breakdowns plus the hi/lo potentials of projects commissioning. Also responsible for Production Quantities monitoring vs. phased Production Budget to determine causes of lost production quantities & causes to enablejjj rectification. Fully responsible for the integrated phasing of Maintenance, Construction, Commissioning & Major Shutdown works.

Responsible for Production Dept. input into the Asset Integrity Plan to rank items according to their effect on Production plans.

Closely involved in well design & tubing choices for sour gas injection wells at 550 barg.

Occidental (Oxy) Oman Inc, Safah, Sultanate of Oman.

Reported to Operations Manager & Maintenance Superintendent, responsible for efficient integration of planning functions into an integrated Asset Planning role to capture all activities impinging on the Assets' integrity & producible potential to safely maximize hydrocarbons' production in Oxy's Safah Field in Oman which produced 50 Mbbls/d; also implementing a new Maintenance Management System (MMS), Maximo, as a constituent part of this integrated planning function.

Included reorganizing the O&M infrastructure to operate in a more integrated manner to combine Production, Maintenance, Assets Integrity Management plus construction & commissioning requirements to improve prediction of production quantities, developing systems & procedures for the new CMMS & the efficient transfer of data.

Responsible for developing new, meaningful Key Performance Indicators (KPI) a as part of a new business management system. Also responsible formulating work packages for Campaign Maintenance with campaign contract KPI's for reward/debit.

Responsible for the optimal phasing of Maintenance, Construction, Commissioning & Major Shutdown works to safely maximize Production quantities. Checked sizing of various process vessels for the addition of gas wells to the overall process.

Qatar Petroleum, Doha, Qatar.

Reporting to Head of Planning, responsible for critically reviewing Operations/Maintenance (O&M) Management Procedures & Operations' practices to develop improved procedures to achieve more cost-effective practices with improved throughput & increased plant availability with particular application to more effective planning & control of Plants' Major Maintenance Shutdowns; this included maintaining scenarios of material balances for offshore & onshore fields' supplies against the demands of downstream power plants & chemical facilities consistent with safety considerations whilst maximizing revenue.

Optimally phased Maintenance, Construction, Commissioning & Major Shutdown works in co-operation with Upstream Gas suppliers & Downstream consumers to produce an integrated plan to which all could 'sign on'. Responsible for the establishment of an Asset Integrity Section reviewing methods for the maintenance of Integrity of assets from design to end of useful life plus infrastructural support required.

Sarawak Operations (SKO), Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia.

Reporting to North Asset Area Manager, responsible for the formulation, implementation & maintenance of all the Assets' (Business Unit) Integrated Business Planning activities. This included all production projections & gas balances in particular, scheduled/statutory inspections, maintenance, projects' construction & commissioning requirements plus drilling/workover requirements.

Also responsible for field life projections & revenue scenarios. Focal Point for the production of the integrated annual & 3-month (90 days) 'rolling' plans which captured all activities affecting hydrocarbons' production & adjusting their phasing to optimize revenue with particular application to Commissioning & Major Shutdown works consistent with required Production quantities phasing with observance of the Government imposed gas flaring/venting allowable quantities.

Jul 1996-Jan 1997 SENIOR CONSULTANT, Self Employed

Responsible for critically reviewing the Staffing requirements for Conoco for a new O&M contract at a major Gas Receiving & Processing plant by analyzing work skills & resources required and formulating an integrated staffing structure.

Responsible for reviewing the estimated work load for Contractor's staff at a Refinery by auditing the total workload & formulating improved methods of integration of work planning for more cost-effective operation.

Durban, South Africa.

Reporting to the Company Regional Manager, responsible for the formulation, presentation & negotiation of a full 'partnership' type integrated O&M contract for the refinery. Also responsible for the efficient strip-out and rebuild of a major process unit on time, within budget & to required quality, controlling an on-site work force peaking to over 1500 persons. Project management was via Primavera (P3) software.

LASMO OIL (COLOMBIA) LTD, Bogota, Colombia.

Reporting to the Production Director, successfully carried out an Operations Audit on all aspects of their Production & (Contract) Maintenance via the production and acceptance of a report which included a detailed plan formulated for progressive, incremental improvements.

This included a re-structuring of Production & Maintenance Groups into an Operations Group with the specification of the necessary cross-discipline training required. It also showed anticipated revenue gains vs. time for the implementation of the recommendations.

Also re-sized various items in oil/water/gas separation process for improved functionality.

Dec 1994-Mar 1995 TEAM LEADER

Reporting to the Management Committee, Team Leader of the 90-Day Integrated Rolling Activity Plan Implementation Team of both Company & contract staff formulating & implementing a method of efficiently centralizing the planning & control of all Field Work via the creation & maintenance of an 'Rolling' Integrated Plan which integrated all planned activities, including all project & major refurbishment work, on hydrocarbon producing facilities, both offshore & onshore.

This also involved developing and implementing methods of data collection and processing, training staff and writing Operations Manuals for the system (written in Artemis 7000) which was also capable of being developed further as may be required later. Project management was via MS Project software.


Reporting to the Production Manager, responsible for the safe & efficient performance of maintenance execution and planning services, construction & commissioning activities & acceptance standards on the Company's oil-related assets and facilities both offshore & onshore for a group of oil-fields in East Central Sumatra.

This included laying pipelines, O&M of a Floating Production & Storage Operation (FPSO) marine oil terminal & responsibility for its operational acceptance at a major shipyard refit. Wells were produced by ESP's down-hole. Formulated & implemented a preventive maintenance regime on the FPSO & monitored its effectiveness. Also supervised a major overhaul of the SPOL unit where its bearing & oil seal were changed.

Established an Integrity Management Section.

Field Operations Manager for nearly two years responsible for all production, drilling, wireline, maintenance, logistics, projects, construction & commissioning plus all HSE matters controlling 210 staff plus sub-contractors and responsible for a budget of $25M pa. Responsible for the formulation of a Production Operations Manual & also a Safety Manual as applied to Field Activities.

Liaised regularly with Government Representatives to ensure that the Company's aims were allied with those of the Government. Was also responsible for some separation process vessels sizing design checking, especially dehydration water vessels & flows.

Also Field Maintenance Supt & regularly deputized for the Production Manager.



Responsible to the Head of Operations Planning and Studies for formulation and development of an Operations Organization for a large group of off-shore oil/gas fields over a 10-year review period by comparing staffing off-shore with various degrees of multi-discipline trained 'Operations Technicians' vs single-discipline trained work-force which reduced Production manpower by 18%. Reporting to Operations Manager, Team Leader of a Quality Management (QM) Team of Production staff applying Juran QM techniques which successfully maximized Production Facilities Uptime (availability) & produced large hydrocarbon production gains & concurrently improved the safety of operations during SIPROD (SImultaneous PROduction & Drilling) by a design modification.


Responsible to the Head of Onshore Production Facilities Maintenance for the formulation and implementation of all planning activities including the formulation of integrated process-plant shut- down and commissioning timings with resourced work-loads. This included establishing the use of a CMMS to optimize maintenance works focus & monitor manpower loading to identify requirements for use of Contract labour, both via manpower supply contracts & campaign maintenance contracts.

Deputized for Head of Onshore Facilities Maintenance, Terminal Area Maintenance Engineer & Field Area Maintenance Engineer.

1976-1988 Employed by Shell International in the Manufacturing (MF) Division until 1979 and then the Exploration and Production (EP) Division seconded to 2 of Shell's OPCO'S (SPDC & PDO) as below.


Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, produced a full maintenance philosophy with objectives and proposed implementation methods of a Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Responsible for the successful implementation of an integrated CMMS & the production & maintenance of the Dept's first Policies and Procedures Manuals.

Responsible for the implementation of preventative maintenance & condition-monitoring procedures which reduced the major breakdowns of 380 reciprocating engine-driven generators & pumps by 70%.

Also deputized as Head of Workshops & Head of Swamp (Forcados) Area Maintenance.


Reporting to the Engineering Maintenance Superintendent, responsible for annual budgets of $8.0M operating and $15.0M capital and controlling a multi-discipline staff of 46 including 3 ex- patriate Section Heads. Responsible for the maintenance of a crude oil tank farm, fiscal export metering, land and sub-sea pipelines, single-buoy moorings (SBM's), central control room, O&M of electrical power generation/distribution (13 MW at 6.6 Kv) plus infrastructural facilities such as office and residential electrical and air-conditioning systems, water supply/distribution and sewage systems.

Responsible for the successful rehabilitation of a crude Storage-Tanks & an SBM overhaul within budgetary limits & planned re-commissioning timings.

PETROLEUM DEVELOPMENT OMAN L.L.C. (PDO), Muscat, Sultanate of Oman

Reported to Head of Maintenance, responsible for all instrumentation maintenance &, reporting to Head Instrument Engineer, responsible for all instrumentation project construction and commissioning in the oil/gas fields of North and Central Interior Oman controlling an annual operating budget of $1.2M pa, a capital budget of $2.0M pa, a staff strength of 32 TCN technicians and contractor construction crews. Redesigned surge & cascade control for gas compressors.

Head of Maintenance-Interior for 2 periods totaling 8+ months controlling an operating budget of $12.0M pa; also Instrument Project Engineer & Head of Mechanical Maintenance.
