In normal operation, three generators will be running with the fourth unit on ‘cold’ standby. The estimated normal operating load demand is 55 MW. Provision is made for the connection of a fifth future gas turbine generator. The generator incoming circuit breaker is normally controlled, for opening / closing and tripping, from the turbine generator package. All the generator protective devices, indications and synchronization equipment are located on the turbine generator control panels, which are part of the turbine generator packages. The connections from the circuit breaker to the turbine generator package are hard wired. The generator incomer circuit breaker earthing switch is key interlocked with both the circuit breaker and the generator excitation system to ensure the earthing switch can only be closed when the circuit breaker is locked open and the generator excitation is de-energized.
