1. Summary (Cover Letter) - CV/Resume Part 1 [Mandatory]

I have been employed in the construction industry for over twenty eight years during this time I have undertaken both onshore and offshore projects primarily in the Oil & Gas, Refinery and petrochemical sectors, and more recently power generation I am a highly qualified and experienced Safety Advisor / Rigger and Steel Erector with extensive supervisory experience and a proven ability to review and enhance existing procedures to ensure safety efficiency and productivity.
I am a fully qualified safety and health practitioner with NEBOSH qualification and IOSH accreditation, my main area of expertise is in Rigging & Lifting but work now as a Safety professional and often combine both skills when working on site. I have also designed and delivered health and safety training to both managers and employees. I now wish to develop my career further, and am therefore looking for a new and suitably challenging position.
I believe that my key qualities are my excellent interpersonal skills and strong communicative ability, combined with my talent for effective organisation and prioritisation. I see myself as very pro-active, highly dedicated and strongly driven individual, a self starter, and good team player, excellent communicator who has extensive experience in the industry on and offshore.

2. Work Experience - CV/Resume Part 2 [Mandatory]

August 08 – Present Intec UK (Safety Engineer)
Working for Alstom Power on Teeside Power Station, transferred from Aberthaw Power Station, to cover for resident engineer on leave, basic safety responsibilities on gas powered plant included CDM & basic induction training, safety tours, tool box talks, daily and weekly auditing and all relevant safety duties on and around the site. Ensuring all any work carried out was in compliance with on site safety instructions as set out by the client.

March 08 –August 08 Intec UK (Safety Engineer)
Aberthaw Power station South Wales N.Power, RWE transferred from Connahs Quay to start work on a planned sixth month outage working for Alstom Power UK part of a four man safety team, outage began in early March, full overhaul of unit 8 boiler, my job entailed carrying out pre planed work activities, safety inductions, safety tours, preparing method statements & risk assessments, planning lifting and rigging operations, new lifting plans and drawings as well as all other associated safety duties and responsibilities. I worked close with the senior boiler engineer and sub contract manager setting out safety plans and improvements for future outages on plant, engineering in new safety methods, including access-egress, new and improved welfare facilities on site.

January 08 February 08 Intec UK (Safety Engineer)
Connahs Quay Power Station North Wales, working for Alstom Power, transferred from Ironbridge Power Station West Midlands and sub contracted to work directly for the client E.ON Power, my job was to oversee as part of the E.ON safety management team the planned six week outage, basic duties included chairing daily safety & CDM meetings, as well as daily safety tours, tool box talks, auditing and checking of worksites and permits, liaising and updating client with any safety concerns or issues raised, also carried out work on updating outdated lifting plans and drawings, outage deemed very successful with regards to safety with no accidents or incidents reported or recorded over the six week period.

June 07 to January 08 Intec UK (Safety Engineer)
Ironbridge Power Station West Midlands working on a planned 14 week outage, subcontracted to Alstom Power, part of a five man safety team providing all aspects of safety cover on the project, including induction training, safety tours, permit auditing, accident & incident investigation, daily safety briefs & meetings, task risk assessments and daily TBTs.The job itself entailed refurbishment and upgrade of one of the huge turbine units and two boilers units on coal fired power station for E.ON power. I worked a great deal of time with Sr.boiler engineer on this project learning and gaining invaluable experience & knowledge of this type of plant, what I contributed was the safety culture that I acquired while working offshore, on this project I managed to change many contractors perception with regards to safety. Post outage I was utilised for ten weeks to give hands on safety training to maintenance crews, explaining proper procedures and best practice when working at height, hot working, rigging & lifting and asbestos awareness training and many others courses that where relevant to work on the plant.

May 07 June 07 DATS International, Liverpool (Safety Adviser)
Mobil North Sea, St Fergus gas terminal, subcontracted to PSN Aberdeen to work on short shutdown, basic daily duties included gas testing and monitoring of enclosed vessels using B.A sets, safety auditing, carrying out inspections and training personnel in confined space entry and sentry duties, assisting on site safety officer with daily checks, and auditing of permits, computer based training and inductions for new starts and all relevant on site safety and welfare issues.

Having worked in the Shipbuilding, Steel, and Oil & Gas industry since 1978, I have built up an extensive knowledge and understanding of the construction Industry over this time. I have worked at home and overseas on long and short-term projects. Successful team worker, professional attitude promoting and maintaining safety standards, able to delegate and prioritise, with good inter personal skills at all levels of management, giving presentations, attending or holding meetings. My duties include heavy lifting and rigging procedures including LOLER. and PUWER method statements and studies, the permit to work system, load testing and proof loading of relevant rigging and lifting equipment and certification, calculations, lifting plans including CAD aided drawings, all crane and winch work, also overseeing on site safety and awareness requirements were understood and met, managing and co-ordinating projects, trouble shooting and subsequent corrective action being applied. I worked as a safety rep on many offshore platforms and benefited from the safety culture that has been adopted over the year’s offshore, excellent awareness, attitude and common sense approach regarding construction safety.
