1. Summary (Cover Letter) - CV/Resume Part 1 [Mandatory]

Extensive experience in the construction management of large infrastructure projects, around 35 millions Euros each with 300 workers on site and with and annual expenditure of 15 millions Euros. Lead teams to deliver high quality results to a variety of clients. Develop and maintain exceptional Clients relationships. Identify and solve problems in short periods of time. Experience dealing with professional from different backgrounds and nationalities. Experience preparing the relocation of different infrastructure, also controlling the deadlines and guaranteeing the deliverance of materials and manpower (in some projects exceeding the schedule’s timeframe). Experience managing budget, achieving the best solutions with the lower costs. Able to deal with quality procedures. Capable to manage and select subcontractors, analyze construction techniques and implement cost saving initiatives. Acquired an entrepreneurship mindset in the Best entrepreneurship Business School in the US. Those tools serve me during my MBA to deliver projects to different clients with valuable conclusions to the Board of Directors; also have valuable knowledge of international ventures and business strategy.

2006: Babson College, USA, Research Assistant, Global Management Department

Research’s project: “Sustainability of Regulatory Reform in Latin America: Unravelling Commitments” Selected the relevant information of the sector in the last 5 years from different business sources. Translated from Portuguese and Spanish technical documents and briefings. Analyzed national and international companies based on their current strategy on the region.

2004-2005: Mota-Engil, Portugal, Assistant Site Manager, Infrastructure Division

Improvements on the highway with the highest density of traffic within the EU (IC19): Managed infrastructure logistics and implementation of all infrastructures. Selected all the subcontractors related with the relocation of the infrastructures and the construction of the project’s facilities. Managed the relationship with public and private clients affected by the project. Conducted several presentations to the top managers of the clients. Analyzed different construction methods for infrastructures in highways currently in operation, looking for work procedures in order to minimize accidents within the workers and the highway’s users. Scheme cost was 30 millions Euros

2004: Mota-Engil, Portugal, Assistant Site Manager, Infrastructure Division

Construction of a new Light Rail System: Synchronized the relocation of infrastructures with the construction of the new Metro lines. Observed different construction methods for Light Rail System in order to understand the phases where people’s safety could be put in jeopardy, and found solutions adapting the safety procedures. Developed technical knowledge regarding the safety specification and construction methods for gas and electricity infrastructures. Worked in partnership with the public and private companies that were affected by the project in order to adapt the company’s safety requirements with the relocation of their infrastructure and their own safety procedures.

2004: Mota-Engil, Portugal, Safety Manager, Infrastructure Division

Construction of two Viaducts for a new Highway: Responsible for the safety procedures for the launch girder and coordinated the fitting of the launcher on the construction site. Studied different projects where that type of equipment were used in order to adapt its operational methods to the specific Viaducts and also evaluated the possible accidents that might occur. Led the preparation of all the safety procedures according to the client’s specification as this was the first time that this equipment was used in Portugal. Led the assembly of the equipment and the initial launching of the girder. Responsible to get those tasks done according to schedule and with no injuries.

2002 – 2004: Mota-Engil, Portugal, Safety Manager, Infrastructure Division

Construction of a new railway line and the recovery of the Nine Train Station: Coordinated the safety of every stage of the project. Served as a liaison member within the client and its consultants adapting safety requirements to the tasks that had to be done on site. This excellent relationship served to receive a personal recommendation from the Safety Coordinator of the Client. It was the only project in the region that received that distinction. Managed 300 people, developed new safety methods of construction and pioneered formal continuing safety education. Ensured work remained within brief and key milestone targets were met. Studied different construction methods for railways in order to reduce the lost time due to injuries or possible accidents. Coordinated the relocation of electrical towers (medium voltage) avoiding interference with the train’s electrical pole. Scheme cost was 35 millions Euros.

2000 – 2002: Mota-Engil, Portugal, Site Engineer & Safety Assessment Coordinator, Infrastructure Division

Construction of a new highway: Assisted the safety procedures on every stage of the project of up to 200 people. Responsibilities included the development of new safety methods of construction. Awarded for the project that excels the safety standards. The project received the Company’s safety award in 2001. This was the project chose to test the Quality certification system. Worked on the construction of 7 viaducts and prepared their execution projects: calculated the support’s structures, prepared safety procedures to be used on site in order to build a protection for an important gas pipeline that crosses the highway. Analyzed different construction methods for Bridges in order to find out the critical construction phases. Prepared and delivered safety courses to workers on site, the courses were prepared based on the future task to be done putting special focus on those work where accidents are more frequent. Worked with the Construction Manager in order to adapt the company’s safety procedures with the client’s expectations. Scheme cost was 20 millions Euros.
