Final Year Project Paper(Thesis)
Title: Mangrove species determination using hyperspectral data (Modis/Aster Airborne Simulator)

The aim of this project is to test whether spectral of mangrove leaves of species measured under laboratory conditions contain sufficient spectral information for discriminating mangroves species. First, spectral reflectance of 10 mangrove species were recorded from the leaves, using a spectroradiometer under laboratory conditions. Next, the mangrove spectra were statistically tested using ANOVA to see whether they significantly differ at every spectral location. It turned out that the 10 mangrove species under study were statistically different at most spectral locations. With 95% confidence level ( p<0.05). The total number of spectral bands that had p-values less than 0.05 was 26 for wavelength 550nm to 582nm and all spectral band for 800nm to830nm. After that spectral library of 10 mangroves species were build and used for classification of MASTER data. Classification technique that have been used is SAM and the overall accuracy was 86.58%. Multi temporal Landsat TM data of year 2000 were used for estimation of accuracy assessment within the study area. For the final analysis, comparison between spectral reflectance from the image and spectral reflectance from the field were made.
