I began this assignment as a Pipeline Commissioning Engineer and was required to prepare commissioning procedures for Sour Gas, Sweet Gas, Condensate and Oil pipelines. I was then required to commission the 10" Sweet Gas and 8" Oil pipelines.
Next, I was assigned as the Client’s Pipeline Site Representative during the de-oiling, HDPE liner installation, pigging, gauging and hydro-testing of gas lines and oil lines. My duties involved the supervision and site management of multi-national contractors during the above activities. I was also required to prepare a Scope of Work for a minor de-oiling and abandonment project and I had to ensure that the work was carried out safely in accordance with Clients and International standards.
On completion of all of the above, I was re-assigned to trials and testing of Hydro-cyclone and Candle filter sand filters used for removing sand from the crude before entry into the gathering station. My position on this project was Company Site Representative where I managed all the on-site activities involving contractors and PDO staff. Occasionally I was required to prepare Scopes of Work for minor projects and review and compare contractor quotations for minor projects. I also recommended modifications to the system and was involved with design changes that were required. I was required to supervise the collection of data, dismantling and re-assembling of the equipment, and operation of the sand filters. Other duties included submitting very detailed reports to the Concept Engineer and I acted as the liaison between client engineering and construction/maintenance contractors.

Advised and provided input and monitored construction activities of contractors to ensure that the engineering, quality and legislative requirements were met.
Reviewed reports and procedures, witnessed hydro-testing of pipe-work and pipelines, monitored welding and fabrication activities, witnessed all forms of testing and calibration of equipment and machinery within the plant and supervised a QA inspection team during the Quality Manager’s absence. I was also required to supervise call contractors activities during tank construction and coating.

On this assignment I acted as liaison between Client’s engineering and contractors. My position was that of Pipeline Maintenance Supervisor and I was required to ensure adherence to Client’s and International specifications.
I managed all contractors' activities during the routine and non-routine maintenance of gas and oil pipelines throughout the South of Oman including pigging, gauging and hydro-testing.
Two specific projects were my main targets. The first was ensuring a main gas line, containing possible pyrophorric material and which hadn't been pigged for a number of years, was pigged. The second was to try to recover two Itag pigs that had been stuck in a small diameter gas line for several years. Both of these tasks were completed successfully.

I was also required to adhere to a very strict timetable and submit daily forecasts and progress reports. The project was completed successfully ahead of schedule and under budget.

Activities included reviewing and approving procedures, certifying welders and welding procedures, witnessing gauging, pigging and testing of pipelines, supervising the installation of Cathodic Protection facilities and supervising all other contractor construction activities.

I was required to liase with the construction yard QC department the Client and ensure that all relevant tests and examinations had been completed during the fabrication of various jackets & platforms before they were sent offshore throughout South-east Asia. I was required to write & review various Q.A./Q.C. procedures, conduct welders qualification tests and was involved generally in painting, coating, welding and N.D.T. inspection supervision on many projects. When I was offshore, I was solely responsible for ensuring that all inspection work was carried out within allowable time scales and to acceptable company and International standards. My duties included the management of the Inspection sub-contractors, liaison with the client and inspection supervision.

Represented ARAMCO during offshore platform and module construction, vessel and tank construction, coating of pipe for pipelines, contractor painting activities and all other activities carried out onshore. Was required to liase with the various project management teams and advise on welding and inspection issues.
Another temporary assignment included representing Gulf Oil during the onshore construction of two jackets and topside decks for installation off shore in Sharjah. Was responsible for ensuring that the platforms were constructed and painted in accordance with Client's and International standards and conformed to all contractual requirements.
I completed my term with Vetco after I was assigned to Brunei as their Area Manager. I was sent to Brunei to set up their Inspection facilities after the company succeeded in obtaining an onshore contract from Shell.
