| 1. Summary (Cover Letter) - CV/Resume Part 1 [Mandatory] |
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am attaching my cv for your kind perusal. I was employed Chief Commercial Officer, APM Terminals, Apapa, Nigeria (Part of APM Moller Maersk Group). Earlier I was Vice President (Research and Strategic Planning), DVB Bank (formerly Nedships), advising various departments on the feasibility of investment proposals and suitability of the shipping markets for future investments.
Prior to that, for five years I was working as Business Analyst for Jo Tankers AS, Bergen, Norway. I have completed Sloan Fellowship Masters Programme from London Business school (LBS). This programme leads to MSc in Management from University of London. Sloan programme is conducted concurrently in Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford and at LBS. And as you probably know LBS is ranked amongst top 10 Business Schools in the world by Financial Times
As Chief Commercial Officer I was involved in negotiating Service Level Agreements with various Lines, lobbying with Government and para-statals, various stakeholders etc. I was able to lobby successfully smooth passage of a bill with the Nigerian Government which enabled us to save over 2 m USD per annum. I was engaged in lobbying for Freeport status (FTZ) which was expected to increase our project NPV by 250 m USD. The Nigerian Government has already given technical approval for the FTZ status.
As an analyst with Jo Tankers AS , I was involved along with our Managing Director in analyzing, advising and drafting corporate strategy. I was part of the team which finalized co-share agreement with Stolt-Nielsen. As part of my job schedule I was engaged in new business development (up to 200 m USD), cross border deals and mergers & acquisitions, gap analysis of skills and competences, cost / benefit analysis of vessel trading patterns, company valuations, investment calculations, market analysis / research, development of market strategy and evaluation of new projects / companies, risk assessment / evaluation and risk management of old vessels in our fleet, assessing risks facing the company, formulating policies on and making recommendations about pooling and time chartering of vessels, evaluating contracts of affreightments etc.
I started my career as an apprentice officer in the merchant navy. I had the good fortune to travel to distant lands at a very impressionable age. I saw with great interest how the Western world had developed a scientific procedure, associated with the names of Galileo and Bacon, based upon observation, reason and experiment. I saw how Eastern world had combined its industriousness with Calvinist work ethic to transform not just organizations but countries as well. Travel does broaden ones mind.
I sailed with Oil major Mobil and later Teekay as First officer. Working on board vessels meant working in small teams of different nationalities, which demanded flexibility and ability to work under very tight time schedules. I got my Masters license and later completed course requirements for Extra Masters, which is the highest qualification in merchant navy.
I am pursuing an MPhil degree (2 year programme) in System Dynamics, from Department of Information Science, University of Bergen, Norway. I have successfully completed the course requirements for the Mphil degree.
I am interested in challenges that will bring out the best in me. I am particularly interested in business development, marketing and policy development roles.
