Responsibilities :
Client representative with final authority to accept the works or any proposal from contractor. Due to the yards inexperience the involvement of the site team to assure the successful completion of this project required a lot of coaching, checking, and verification that was beyond what is normal if the project is performed by better experienced yard.
Duties covered giving of technical advise, approval of fabrication drawings, fabrication procedures, approval of procurement, day to day supervision fabrication works, planning of day to day activities, resolution of technical queries ( with assistance of home office engineering), definition of manpower requirements, including mobilization of subcontractors for work that the yard failed to perform. Commercial follow up of the contract and definition of policy for change order and extra works. Responsible for performance of the works in a safe manner ( 1.5 million man-hours without LTO). Responsible for the coordination of the efforts of the Site team, that because of the inexperience of the yard was unusually large, making welfare provisions for the site team.

Despite major hurdles encountered during the construction period, the project was completed on schedule and for Bluewater in a commercially acceptable manner.

Works started with the performance of a close up survey of the vessel, and continued with extensive steel renewal works, inspection and overhaul of ship systems, such as for cargo handling, ballasting, power generation, inert gas, cargo tank cleaning, and heating. Supervision of topside modules design and fabrication , 6 modules in total , with a combined weight of 21,000 mt. Topsides included a power generation plant with 2 6.6kV 5MW, 50 Hz generators. with dual fuel type turbines Meanwhile interface with engineering run in parallel to construction activities and works performed by subcontractors for topsides and bow turret .day to day management of construction works, procurement, performed by a work force of 400 personnel.

Management of all works related to the installation of second buoy and associated pipeline at Nexen’s Ash Shihr Export Terminal. Starting project definition ,budgeting followed by preparation of tender document, evaluation and contract award.

Second loading buoy and associated pipelines at Ash Shihr Export Terminal –Offshore Yemen- Canadian Nexen Petroleum Inc.

Nexen decided to install a second buoy at its Yemen export terminal to minimize the risk of downtime of this vital node point of company’s activities. Assignment started with project definition and preparation of budgeting information for board approval, Pre-engineering survey was organized on fast track approach, while simultaneously the preparation of tender documents for the ECP contract for all the components needed to install a functioning terminal. Project was shelved as the price for the works, became uneconomical due to the present security situation.

2000- 2001

Management of all activities related to a FPSO conversion project ,covering the design, procurement & fabrication of all equipments ,components for a floating production system. including its installation .Interface with client, supervision & coordination of design activities performed in house and by outside consultants, subcontractor and vendor supervision and inspection. Responsible for performance of all project activities within the budget , and in accordance with project schedule.
Projects :
FPSO for Espoir field development – Espoir field offshore Ivory Coast – Client Ranger oil Cote D’Ivoire SARL – Processing capacity 45,000 BCPD and 40 MMSCF of gas per day

The FPSO carries production equipment, consisting of multistage oil, water and gas separation, compressors for pressuring export gas, and a glycol dehydration unit. The process plant comprises units for water injection with steam turbine driven injection pumps, which together with the gas lift system is used to enhance production. Modifications, refurbishment and adaptation of ship based systems ,including overhaul of the accommodation, installation of new boiler plant (2*80 mt/hr), addition to the existing generator plant of steam turbine driven alternators, modification to the ship’s main switch board, refurbishment of all ship systems as required for classification of the vessel.
The project included the design and construction supervision of 17 topside packages ,with a combined weight of 1650 mt.. The process package of 344 mt weight was followed by the three compressor packages of each 310 mt. In the course of the design extensive HAZOP’s were conducted to assure that the packages had adequate safety provisions.
Considering the tight schedule design, detailed engineering , procurement and fabrication activities were run on full integrated basis. Ship class related works were carried out in Subic shipyard while the conversion works were completed in Keppel Shipyard Singapore. This fast track ship to FPSO conversion was carried out in 18 months period .Delivery of the system was end October 2001.The system was installed Espoir site offshore Ivory Coast during December2001 /January 2002..

Company :MPG – Mar Profundo Girasol – joint venture between Buoygues Offshore and Mc Dermott ETPM (Stolt Offshore)

Position : Project Manager loading buoy and FPSO mooring

Management of all project activities related to the design ,fabrication ,transportation of an offloading system and installation of loading buoy & FPSO ,both located in 1400 m water depth. Coordination and supervision of in house design work on loading lines and their interface with the loading buoy & FPSO .Contract negotiation , approval of design ,site supervision and quality control of the works undertaken by the buoy manufacturer. Profit and loss responsibility for this part of the project. Emphasis was on the technically challenging aspects buoy project, the CALM buoy in the world’s deepest waters, and the commercial complicated nature of this state of the art project. For the FPSO mooring system activities covered the design ,procurement of the different components, and integration of these in the floater’s hull .Development of detailed procedures for installation of both mooring buoy and FPSO on location.


FPSO laid out to process 200’000.-BOPD & Installation of a loading buoy and associated export lines ,capable to receive 400’000 dwt tankers at MPG location offshore Angola, client Elf Exploration Angola

Hired by the joint venture company MPG, contractor for the design, procurement, fabrication and installation of FPSO and associated loading terminal, first responsibility was the development of the overall layout of the FPSO with additional personal responsibility for the design, fabrication and installation of the export lines and loading buoy. The buoy is installed in a water depth of 1400 m, and at this moment is the buoy installed in the deepest water depth ever. The passivated crude is pumped from the FPSO, via a twin 16-inch pipeline system floating at minimum 200 m below sea surface, the lines are supported at one side by the FPSO and at the other by the loading buoy. This state of the art project, required a tight management and coordination of the in house design of the loading lines and the design of the loading buoy undertaken by the supplier. The contract with the buoy supplier covered design, procurement, fabrication and transportation of buoy and it’s mooring system. The mooring system consists of composite lines, where bottom and top portions are made up from chain .while the joining portions are made from synthetic fiber ropes. Considering the state of the art nature of the project, tight supervision of subcontractor was mandatory to avoid unwanted delay in the fabrication.

Overall management of Construction projects undertaken by Intec’s regional office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Duties covered the overall coordination of the works design review & approval, contract negotiation, supervision and quality control of procurement activities and subcontracts, progress assessment, payment control, interfacing with client on a day to day basis and by formal presentation to client’s board of directors. This position required a wide hands-on experience in contractual and technical matters. Training and education of local staff was part of the assigned responsibilities. Preparation of bid packages and pricing of new projects.


Installation of SPM system for 350’000 Dwt tankers at Sungai Udang (Melaka) ,client MRC, management of EPC contract

Hired by the Houston office of Intec Engineering Inc, and immediately assigned to their regional office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to manage the construction of a SPM oil terminal at Sungai Udang ,for Malaysian Refining Company (MRC) a joint venture between Petronas ,Conoco and Statoil .The terminal consists of Single point mooring buoy for 350’000 dwt tankers and a 6.8 km long pipeline of 48 inch diameter. The project was completed September 1998. The schedule required close coordination with the contractor Promet-Nippon Steel. Intec’s role as PMC (Project Management Consultant )for this project was to act on behalf of MRC on all aspects of managing the construction contract. This project was run with a skeleton staff and required from all the team members a solid back ground in contractual and technical matters pertaining to the works. The scope to be covered included design , procurement, fabrication of the CALM buoy, construction of pipeline and onshore facilities. Reporting duties to client on a day to day basis and to client’s management were extensive and required flexibility and good interpersonal skills to complete successfully. The works covered the fabrication of the buoy , supply of coated line pipe’s ,installation of 6.8 km of offshore pipeline and 5 km of onshore pipeline, testing and commissioning including the first offloading of a 300’000 dwt tanker.


Company: GAL Offshore Services limited. Bombay, India

Position : General Manager/vice president Construction

Set up from grass roots of offshore construction department Execution of all offshore works undertaken by the company.


My duties with this company started with setting up an offshore construction department to perform all activities from price preparation, commercial negotiations with client, project execution, till financial phase out of the project. Recently the company has merged with Great Eastern Shipping Company.

Installation of three replacement pipelines in the Dorood field ,client Oceaneering, Owner, National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC),Location Kharg Island ,Arabian Gulf

In this project three replacement pipeline sections ,of diameter 12 inches, were installed, one was connected to a riser, one involved a beach pull, the third one had two subsea tie in's. The sections were laid by GAL offshore and subsequently tied in to the existing pipeline by hyperbaric welds performed by Oceaneering.
This project was the first project executed by the DLB-900 (ex Mahavir) after it's extensive refurbishment. Personal involvement started with the preparation of the estimate for the project, pre-contractual negotiations with the client, placement of all subcontracts for services & supplies, supervision of construction engineering & procedure writing, recruitment of all expatriate and local barge personnel, day to day operational management of the barge during installation works. For a first project performed by the barge, additional factors such as the long distance between management center and site, together with the difficulty of operating within Iran( restrictions on nationalities of expatriate personnel),and the non existence of local supply networks, made it a particular challenging project.

Upgrading of BPA-BPB platform's, subcontractor to Essar Oil Limited ,Owner, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Location Bassein field, offshore India.

This project covers the installation of additional conductor pipes at 4 platforms ,together with deck extensions and miscellaneous piping works. The works were performed by the Gal Constructor, a hook up barge with 150 mt crane capability. Gal supplied all materials , prefabrication and offshore crews for the hook up and commisioning

SHG remedial works, subcontractor to Daewooo shipbuilding and heavy Industries, Korea, ,Owner, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Location Bombay High field, offshore India

Transportation ,lifting and hook-up of 16 valves, (largest size 16 inch ). ,installation of splash zone protection on jacket members .Testing and commissioning of piping after completion of hook-up.

Upgrading of wellhead platforms in Bombay High field. Subcontractor to Mazagon Docks, ,Owner, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Location Bassein field, offshore India.

Installation of two additional conductor pipes on 2 wellhead platforms, including installation of interconnecting piping and of protector frame. Scope of work included transportation, installation, hook up, testing and commissioning
1991 – 1995

Overall project management responsibility for major Offshore Installation and Hook up Works for jackets and

SHG Process complex client Oil and Natural Gas Commission ,location Bombay High Field offshore India

The contract for these works was placed with a consortium formed between Daewoo Shipbuilding of South Korea ,responsible for fabrication works ,and N.P.C.C., covering all the offshore installation works. NPCC’s scope of work included the installation in the Bombay High Field of the SHG platform ,comprising a 8 legged jacket (weight 5500 mt), with 4 main piles and 16 skirt piles ,and topsides(6 compressor modules and generator cum living quarters packages) and associated modification works on remote platforms, and laying of the related pipelines. Project management of all works involving daily management of in house departments, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors, for design ,transportation, installation testing and commissioning of the platform and of 188 km of pipelines with diameters 10 through 28 inches ,co¬ordination of procurement activities, interface with client and consultants, supervision of subcontractors. The contract value of 120 million US $, represented 50 percent of the yearly turnover of the company. Hook up works included modification works at 18 platforms in addition to the SHG decks. During the installation phase I was heading the Bombay based site office, with full responsibilities for client contacts, operational and logistic management of 4 installation barges spreads executing simultaneously the field works. An This project was completed on time on 31/04/1994 and within the budget.

l-MNTW infill platform project, subcontractor to Larsen and Toubro, Owner, Oil and Natural Gas commission, Location Bombay high field, offshore India

This project was run simultaneously with the SHG project described above. My personal tasks during this project were the same as for the SHG project. The project involved the installation of 4 wellhead Platforms (each 4 legged jackets, with 4 main piles and 4 skirt piles) and their topsides (one main deck and one helicopter deck) and a combined length of 78 km of pipelines in sizes ranging from 4 though 16 inches . This project was timely completed on 28/03/1994.

SHW project, Subcontractor to Daewoo Shipbuilding, Owner, Oil and Natural Gas Commission, location Bombay High Field offshore India.

Personal responsibilities were the same as described for the SHG & I-MNTW Projects. This Project consists of the installation of water injection platform and topsides, together with the laying of 16 km of pipelines of diameter .The scope of work covered by N.P.C.C. was launching, upending and setting of the jacket (weight 4500 mt) and it's associated deck .The scope of work for pipelines consisted of design , supply, coat and wrap, transportation ,laying ,testing and commissioning .

IPC-Heera trunk line, Client Oil and Natural Gas Commission, Location Bombay High & Heera Field, offshore India.

Installation of 120 km long 30 inch pipeline between the ICP and Heera platforms, with 5 laterals (branching),and 18 km long 22 inch branch line to the SHP platform. The water depth along the pipeline varies from 50 to 80 m. The pipeline is trenched to a cover of 1.2 M. Contractual sum was 60 mil US $.

This project was carried out in co-operation with a local contractor ,the technical emphasis was on the development of simplified techniques for survey and execution of the installation works(pipeline pulling, and trenching, buoy installation works with locally available barge). The project involved

The design and testing of a purpose built trenching machine that was to be used for post trenching the pipeline in the shore approach area.

Installation of spread mooring with a LPG loading line and associated vapor return line, client ENPPI location Red sea ,Egypt.

Design and construction of 8 and 6 inch lines. The concrete coated pipelines were simultaneously pulled from onshore make up site to sea., with PLEM attached . The spread mooring consisted of four buoys , tied to the seabed by anchors. The contract included the installation of land lines (10 km) connecting the terminal to the onshore facilities.

Repair of 1O inch oil line at Ekpe platform client Mobil Oil Nigeria ,location offshore Nigeria

Procedures and project management (including hands on offshore management of construction works) for repair of a 10 inch pipeline at Mobil's Ekpe platform The repair was carried out from a dynamic positioned diving vessel that was used to lift the pipeline to the surface where the tie in was made .During these works extensive use was made of ROV's to perform most of the subsea works .

Repair of a 6 and 8 inch pipeline, client ELF ,location offshore Gabon.

Procedures and project management for repair of a 6 and 8 inch pipeline ,including a study to install a lay ramp for small diameter pipelines on board of a dynamic positioned diving support vessel.

Installation SBM and 48 inch loading line at Sirte oil terminal, client Sirte oil Cy, Offshore the Libyan coast.

Design, fabrication and construction of a 48 inch loading line ,installed by beach to sea pull using a subsea installed linear winch

Installation of 3O kV electrical cable at Djeno terminal client Elf Congo ,location offshore Congo

Project management for installation of 30 km long electrical cable between an offshore platform and the onshore oil terminal.

Fabrication and installation of SBM, with associated extension of 42 inch oil line at ADCO oil terminal ,client ADCO oil Cy ,location offshore Abu Dhabi

In 1983 BOS decided to built a new derrick/ pipe lay vessel the BOS 400. My contribution to this project consisted of design specification ,vendor contract negotiations ,construction and installation supervision of pipe line equipment (conveyors, line up tables ,tensioners and stinger.).The equipment
was laid out for handling pipelines with coated OD of maximum 60 inches and to lay in water depths of up to 100 m.

Design of the Main oil line and three loading lines, pipe sizes were 42 to 48 inches, all four lines had landfall connections at Zirku island. Personal involvement started with the hydraulic design of the lines for a specified flow rate, design for stability calculations with detailed analysis of wave and current loads in the shore approach zone, specifications for line pipe, corrosion and concrete coating Specifications were developed for pipeline installation followed by the review of installation procedures submitted by contractors. During project execution I was detached to the site office to supervise the installation activities with particular emphasis on the trench preparation in the shore approach area and the barge to shore pull of the four pipelines

48 inch pipeline across the Firth of Forth ,client British Gas ,location Scotland

Design specification write up ,bid package preparation ,assessment of contractor's bids ,pre-contractual negotiations ,site supervision of the installation of 48 inch pipeline crossing the Firth of Forth.

24 inch gas line from North Rankin platform to Dampier client Woodside Petroleum Offshore Western Australia.

At an early stage of the project I was detached to the project office in Perth, where I participated in the preparation of the design and bid package for the installation of the 24-inch gas line pipelines.
