Took initiative to reduce machine shop supplier count from over 300 to 70. Selected, qualified, and pushed continuous improvement of remaining shops by monitoring quality and delivery metrics. Recruited machine shops outside the oil industry to insulate our production from capacity competition with other oilfield service companies. Focused capacity expansion on high-value machine services not easily found in the Houston area.
• Created and implemented new O-ring packaging system to minimize waste and confusion. Reduced packaging methods from 5 to 1.

Developed, tested, and delivered to field a new heavy-duty gravel packing seal design providing 80% performance improvement with only 20% cost increase. Spearheaded development of downhole “wet-mate” connector for instrumentation in intelligent well completions.
• Received US Patent 6,575,243 B2 for trip-saving downhole gravel packing method.

Synthesized multiple on-hand technologies to build the company’s first working prototype for “pilot” fuel injection, a fuel delivery method that allows diesel engines to run cleaner, quieter, and more efficiently. Generated approximately $2M in annual savings by redesigning a $4 machined part into a $0.53 stamping. Pushed further use of DFM concepts in other new product lines.
