6. Additional Information - CV/Resume Part 6 [Optional]

1. Knowledge of industrial Hygiene.
I have extensive knowledge of Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Compliance, Safety, Fire protection, Emergency Preparedness, and Occupational Health principals, practices and procedures that pertain to laws, regulations and nationally recognized recommendations that relate to the health care industry due to my involvement in heath care from my years as a Firefighter, and an Emergency Medical Technician. I have been a hazardous materials operator for several years that requires strict compliance with EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) Environmental laws and regulations regarding materials storage, clean-up, and disposal to include Bio-hazard disposal and safety. Part of being a Emergency services response Employee is a strict adherence to Safety practices and procedures, on and off the job, Always being in a constant state of emergency readiness, (I prefer to be more proactive than reactive) and recognizing fire protection issues such as NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency), NFC (National Fire Code), Life Safety Code, And UBC (Uniform Building Code) code violations. I currently develop, maintain, and adapt safety programs and procedures for many types of Occupancies to include health care facilities such as hospitals for the purpose occupant safety. Some of the things that are included in these plans are, but not limited to, Fire Evacuation plans, Fire drill schedules, a regular inspection program to maintain compliance with fire code, building code, and life safety code, and building Pre-fire and floor plans. I also maintain all types of fire detection, extinguishment, and quick attack equipment such as fire extinguishers upon the rotating inspection plans that I have developed, and perform spot safety inspections to ensure compliance with all afore mentioned code making agencies. I have spent many years researching building construction standards and codes, along with inspecting buildings of new and existing construction for code standard and local law enforcement. I am also certified to inspect all types of building occupancies for compliance, accredited by NFPA standards. I have also taken many semester hours of schooling for classes pertaining to Building construction, Code compliance, Safety and Hygiene, Fire prevention and suppression, EPA regulations, and OSHA, (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) rules and regulations.

2. Expert knowledge of professional concepts.
I understand, probably better than most, the importance of the concept of these safety and health aspects relating to Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Compliance, Safety, Fire protection, Emergency Preparedness, and Occupational Health principals, especially when it comes to conducting Industrial Hygiene studies to develop new sampling and control methods for the purpose of developing, implementing, and or changing policies and programs to maintain the most up-to-date information to comply with current standards. Sometimes control groups have to change completely to meet with the times, because of new information through research, learning from a real life situation, and technology changes. Constantly keeping up with field related technical publications; local, national, and world events can be the best way of implementing change by learning from others mistakes, instead of our own. New knowledge and information can then be passed on to other agencies, facility staff, and management for a better, safer work environment.

3. Knowledge required to research technical publications.
Most of my professional life has been focused on research, either for the benefit of myself, or of my employees. A lot of my time in college was spent learning how to research technical publications that are very hard to decipher and interpret. I have run into many situations where I have found more than one answer for my question in the same publication, but safety drives me to take the more stringent of the requirement to be used. Most Toxicological and Environmental information is very difficult to interpret for most individuals, and having a background in Hazardous materials, Chemistry, Biology, the Environment, and industrial hazards allows me to have a better idea of how different materials may react with each other to better prepare safety practices and procedure guidelines, Technical Publications, and Training programs for employees and beyond. I have found that a team approach is usually the best policy when it comes to developing policy, procedure, and guidelines. Other professionals in the field may have new information that has not been released yet, or just been discovered. A team effort is always favorable.

4. Industrial Hygiene instrumentation and monitoring equipment.
I am trained and skilled in using many forms of Industrial Hygiene instruments and monitoring equipment including, but not limited to air quality monitors, explosive monitors, lethal gas detectors, taking and being able to perform chemical and Biological tests on samples for analysis and comparison with a control group to maintain the highest levels of safety and security for employees, patients, customers, and beyond.

5. Knowledge of medical facility operations, processes, materials, equipment,
And by-products.
Being an EMT, (Emergency Medical Technician) I have spent a great amount of time working in medical facilities and learned about facility operations and processes at great length. I am skilled in filling out proper paper work and forms, adhering to strict privacy rules and regulations, and have received extensive knowledge on processing patients. Along with patient care, and schooling I have learned how to use, maintain, and have first hand experience with a wide variety of Medical materials, Equipment, and the Bio-Hazard by-products generated. My job is all about patient care which is paramount, however proper precautions must always by taken to prevent personal infection, or contamination such as wearing proper PPE, (Personal Protective Equipment) and BSI (Body Substance Isolation) materials.

6. Knowledge of EPA, DHEC, OSHA, CAP, JCAHO regulations pertaining to occupational safety program.
I have extensive knowledge of these organizations rules and regulations, because I have to follow and use them nearly every day in my profession. Nearly every new policy or procedure that I develop is usually referenced in accordance with one of these organizations regulations I would say that OSHA, and the JCAHO are the two biggest parts of my professional life governing and covering nearly all aspects of my job to one degree or another.

7. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to prepare reports and presentations.
Along with college courses on public speaking and technical report writing, I have also become a certified Instructor and have taught several classes and made several presentations for my employees, and or other professional organizations. I have also taken courses on public fire education to speak to specific groups on fire safety issues. The classes that I develop and teach have to be tailored for a very diverse group of people. Not all people have the same back round and one person may learn differently that the next. With such a diverse group many things have to be explained on a level everyone can understand, without degrading or demeaning anyone’s intelligence. Diversity is all around us, and we have to be prepared for it and accept it. Report writing is also a major part of my job. I understand that through documentation, and reports we can use the information contained to make for a better safer future for all of us, however to maintain clarity and consistency, reports must also stick to fact instead of personal opinions.
