I am working as QA/QC welding inspector in SAIPEM NIGERIA and I have been also worked as QA/QC supervisor ,NDT Inspector for nearly seven years including CONSTRUCTION project of PIPELINE in SAIPEM, METAL SERVICES and have SHUTDOWN EXPERIANCES.I Have been involved in shutdowns like REFINARIES, PETROCHEMICALS, GAS PLANTS ,FERTLIZERS, etc... I have also worked in shutdown jobs in India which has given me the knowledge and experience I have got through the job. The inspection carried out during my Job includes CORROSION, EROSION, WELDINGS, DOCUMENTATION, helping in AUDITING and co-ordination of jobs.

IN SAIPEM(NIGERIA)

 I am working as welding inspector.
 I have been involved in PWPS preparation and qualify the PWPS by PQR.
 Preparation of the pipe material and electrode going to be used with their chemical composition and their requirements(e.g. low hydrogen)
 Preparation of pipe number heat number lot number of the electrode, fit up of the pipe, welding machine calibration, preparation of the instrument needed for the PQR.
 Taking readings of the volt, amp and travel speed.
 Then preparation of the test piece and marking for mechanical test according to the procedure.
 I have been conducting WELDER QUALIFICATION of all position in the pipe.
 I have been involved in preparation of all documents for the project
 (welders repair log, repair status, material handling, electrode storage, instrument logs, welding machine calibration etc…)
 It includes preparation of welders certificate according to client SPEC or API standard
 Preparation of weekly reports and submitting to my boss.
 I was also involved in FLIM INTERPRETATION and inspection of the UT.
 I used to conduct DUPLEX AWARNESS programs and conduct tools box meeting with the welders, foremen and supervisors.
 I have been involved in inspection of OMNI SCAN one of the latest UT scanning method.

 Preparing PQP (project quality plan), reviewing the calibration certificates of instruments and welding machines.

The jobs that I have involved during my SHUTDOWN jobs are noted down. It includes STATIC EQUIPMENTS, cross country PIPELINES inspection and other jobs in the project.


PRESSURE VESSELS INSPECTED

REFORMERS : The REFORMER where I had inspected are HYDROCARBON PLANT and FERTILIZERS. The reformer tubes were inspected by IESCO from USA. The tubes were inspected by the most advanced method through H-SCANNING. This inspection includes pipe dimension checking, thickness, corrosion and erosion survey using UT flaw detection and EDDY CURRENT. The other inspections carried out in the reformer are BURNERS, SUPPORT SPRINGS, CERAMIC, and other minor inspection.

REGENERATORS : The places inspection carried out where in PRIMARY, SECONDARY and THIRD SATGE mainly cracks where found on the bottom of the cyclone.


BOILERS : The inspection carried out on the tubes for corrosion survey, cracks and the bend in the tubes. The material replaced should be first ground inspected by IBR and then approved for replacement. The welder going to be used should be approved by IBR. The main types of boiler I have involved in inspection were FIRE BURN, COAL BURN, GAS BURN boilers.


REACTORS : Here the reactors I have inspected are from Refineries and fertilizers. The reactors have mostly trays and they differ as like whole type trays. Star trays and button type. The reactor are separated by many transit should be checked at the bottom and the weir end and the riser end for slag presentation.


COLUMNS and DRUMS : The column I have inspected were crude column, vacuum column .The columns and the drums I have inspected corrosion surveyed at the bottom and the shell and the vertex breaker are checked including hex mesh. Mostly the drums were corroded at the top due to caustic vapors and often recommended for BELZONA COATING.


STEAM GENERATOR : In the steam generator the problem arises when its need to replace the tubes. Before it is replaced it should be chemical cleaned and replaced with the tube inspected by IBR inspector. I have involving in this job in welding and visual testing, RT, UT.


EXCHANGERS : The exchangers mostly inspected where FLOATING HEAD EXCHANGERS, FIXED TUBE EXCHANGERS, U-TUBE EXCHANGERS, DOBLE EXCHANGERS, MIXED FEED EXCHANGERS, KETTLE TYPE EXCHANGERS.
The most part the exchangers where inspected are shell cover, floating head cover, tube sheet, channel cover, etc. where inspected for corrosion survey. There are more many parts in exchangers to be inspected. The tubes are corrosion checked using EDDY CURRENT method. Then if the coils need replacement it should be seen that the coil is welded with the tubes are SEAL WELDING or STREGTH WELDING or EXPANSION of the tubes. Then the other functions are carried out according to quality standards.

AIR FIN COOLERS : Here it is mostly inspected according as heat exchangers because it is also one type of heat transfer. Here also the EDDY CURRENT method is carried out for corrosion survey and the replacement of tubes is carried out according as exchangers done.
TANKS : The tanks I have mostly inspected are floating roof tank, fixed and also sphere involves in storage. The inspection carried out in the shell and the bottom plate. They are mostly carried out by vacuumed test at the bottom plate. The other methods are NDT method like UT, RT, and MPT. The spheres are inspected as like tank using NDT method and they are hydro tested.
FLARE : The flare is the most important part in chemical and the petrochemical industries which is used to fire the waste gas and dissolves in atmosphere. The main parts are like IGNITION, PILOT, STEAM PIPES, BURNERS, VELOSITY SEAL, and CLIBS. The flare is dived into two parts. The top part is called as TIP END, the other bottom parts are called as RISERS. The working temperature are mostly maximum 850 degree Celsius mostly INCONEL metals are used. Because it’s melting temperature is about 1000 degree Celsius. The other mainly involvement of flare is KNOCKOUT DRUM and SEAL DRUM. Here not much inspected the shell and the vertex breaker.

WELDING JOBS
The welding jobs I have involved are mainly in replacement of tubes in boilers where IBR inspection are carried out. So I have involved in paper works involvement IBR. The other welding jobs I have involved are for stacks replacement in reformers and tubes replacement in exchangers and fin fan coolers. I have been involved in welder qualification on jobs based on IBR procedure for steam generator. I have been involved in witnessing the visual of the welds like SMAW, GTAW, SAW and inspecting PWHT.


STANDARDS : The standards I have been involving are ASME, ASNT, ASTM, API, TEMA and AWS.

OTHER JOBS INVOLVED:
• The other jobs are like third party inspection of NDT jobs and helping out in ISOMETRIC drawing of pipe lines, VISUAL TESTING of welds joint and co-coordinating jobs for the H-SCANNING.
• I have been involved in many places as NDT-COORDINATOR jobs in places like SARC, SAIL (for sphere shutdowns), and RAMAGUNDAM POWER PLANT.
• In SARC I have been involved in third party inspection of UT jobs for the outer cover plate of the rocket. In SAIL I have been involved in shutdown of the three spheres. In RAMAGUNDAN POWER PLANT I have been involved in third party inspection of NDT jobs like RT, UT.

I have been involved in inspection of jobs in refinery, petrochemicals, fertilizers, power plant. What I have noted above all is true of my knowledge and with full confidence. The jobs involved are all mostly individual jobs.
