Hi i am currently employed as a senior lead engineer with TWMA and operate plant offshore as well as onshore, before this I served 2 years as a lecturer teaching engineering. previous to this I served my time as a marine engineer and worked in this sector for 7 years before going lecturing.
2. Work Experience - CV/Resume Part 2 [Mandatory]
My current position involves building and modifying of TCC roto mills from the ground up, which includes machining, welding and assembling components; measuring tolerances and aligning shafts; installing engines, gearboxes, screws and all other hardware and fabricating stainless, steel and hydraulic pipe pork. I have recently been part of a team commissioning and operating the new Mills both on and offshore. This involves managing, operating and carrying out maintenance of all offshore equipment as well as managing all personnel and keeping them up to date in training and health and safety. I also perform on site assessments to ensure staff are constantly learning and completing in house standards on the TCC rotomills.
Before this I was employed at the North Atlantic Fisheries College Marine Centre as an Assistant Lecturer in Engineering. In this position I had many important roles and responsibilities. These included carrying out maintenance of all machinery in the workshop; ensuring that Health and Safety Policies within the workshop were up to date and that myself, and my pupils strictly adhered to these; making sure that my lesson plans and assessments were up to date. One of my main duties was to teach the students and instruct and assist them when necessary. I taught a variety of classes and courses which included:
• Machining, which involved milling and lathe operations, offset turning and screw cutting.
• Assembly skills, which involved overhauling valves, pumps inspecting machinery and measuring wear.
• MCA diesel engine course, which involved dismantling and reassembling a complete engine, measuring wear and tolerances.
• Welding, including MMA, TIG, MIG and gas welding as well as brazing and bronze welding.
• Skills Spec, which involved making one off components by hand.
I also assessed candidates at work performing operations as evidence to go towards their SVQ level 3 qualifications in engineering. I have also almost completed my A1 assessors ticket.
I started my career at the Malakoff and worked as part of a large team of Marine Engineers. I carried out a wide range of jobs which included installing and repairing hydraulic systems, pipe work, steam and sea valves, heavy plant, steering and drive gear onboard ships and machining and fabricating one off components. I was also annually contracted into the Lerwick Power Station to overhaul steam valves and replace pipe work. In this role we were trained to carry out all types of machining, milling, welding as well as engine, gearbox, large rotating equipment repairs.
