1. Summary (Cover Letter) - CV/Resume Part 1 [Mandatory] |
Re: Cover letter for entry level geoscientist position
Dear Madam/Sir,
Thank you for this opportunity to introduce myself. I am seeking employment as an entry level geoscientist in either petroleum exploration or development. At a time when the world is focused on petroleum, I would welcome the opportunity to bring the research and analytical skills I have developed as a geoscientist to the right company. My knowledge base and skills were developed in a rigorous BS and MS curriculum of coursework, fieldwork, and lab work as shown on my resume. I finished my BS and MS degrees with GPAs of 3.855 and 3.804, respectively. Additionally, through my coursework and research in geology, as well as my simultaneous completion of a law degree, I have developed excellent writing and oral presentation skills.
For my thesis research, I chose to study an aspect of karst reservoir macro-porosity which was largely unexplored, but which has far-reaching applications. The results of the experiment became the basis for my thesis, An Empirical Study of Cave Passage Dimensions Using Augmented Radial and Longitudinal Survey Data. I designed the experiment with enough flexibility to adapt to a variety of field conditions and I directed the field work to collect the necessary data for the experiment. Then, I quantified the effect of limited data on the relative error of pore volume calculations. The preliminary results of the experiment were delivered at an AAPG conference in a PowerPoint presentation and published in the AAPG abstracts volume. Additionally, in a Summer (2008) Internship position, I researched and created local scale isopach maps of the Marcellus Shale, for Wilkes Energy, to assist in evaluating production potential for leases held by the company.
It would be a welcome opportunity to bring my skills to a great company. I learn quickly, work hard, and focus intently on the tasks at hand. I am enthusiastic about the mutual benefit to both an employer and myself from such a professional relationship.
