2. Work Experience - CV/Resume Part 2 [Mandatory]
I served a traditional four year indentured apprenticeship for a Mechanical Technician.
Placements at ICI, British Steel, Ken Elders & Britannia Lifting, working both supervised and unsupervised, carrying out routine and non-routine maintenance on a range of equipment, from rotating machinery to heat exchangers. Working within the central workshops on the Wilton International site. Starting with the rotating centre, overhauling various pumps, stripping them down inspecting components including the shafts and running them out with DTI’s before re-assembling them. Another aspect of the work was measuring end floats, impellers and wear rings using various types of measuring equipment such as micrometers and verniers and also measuring the bores of the impellers while the pumps were stripped down. After strip down and inspection was complete the pumps were re-assembled and pressure tested to ensure the seals had no sign of leakage. I gained valued experience with maintenance shutdown at Philips Petro Plus Chemical Plant which also included replacing gas and water valves. I also had the responsibility of liasing with and overseeing numerous specialist vendors. My last year placement was at SR Engineering and within 6 months I was awarded a promotion to Shop Foreman where I was able to gain valuable experience in planning and organising large maintenance work fronts. The work I have carried out ranges from the removal of pumps and overhauling them before they are re-instated and aligned using rotalign laser alignment equipment to seal changes on reactor units and also maintenance work on rotary refrigeration units.
