I am 24 years old, holder of BTEC Higher National Diploma in Marine Engineering and BTEC National Vocational Qualification in Marine Engineering along with Marine Engineer 4th Class Certificate of Competency (steamship) issued by the Government of the United Kingdom. I am currently in service with MISC Berhad as a 4rd Engineer on board MISC LNG Carriers.

2. Work Experience
Starting from the early employment rank as a Junior Engineer, I have gone through promotion and rank advancement as the Fourth Engineer, Plant Third Engineer and my present rank as the Electrical Third Engineer.

I am directly responsible monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting of the ship's main propulsion plant, electrical power plant and auxiliary machinery system and also as the Duty. Engineer in full charge for a 24 hours period in every 72 hours.

I am also responsible to plan and carry out planned / preventive maintenance as scheduled and corrective / unscheduled maintenance for all machinery and equipment as needed. My additional task / responsibility on board are to take charge of the emergency squad in any emergency situation.

I have involved in major plant shut down, maintenance and repair, overseeing work progress and recommissioning of the plant during the ship dry docking period at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' Yokohama dockyard, Japan on May 2001 MMHE Pasir Gudang dockyard ,Malaysia May 2005. Overseeing New Ship SS Seri Ayu at Samsung Heavy Industries, Korea on August 2007.


The following are some of machinery that is under my responsibility;

Main Propulsion Engine

Main engines Kawasaki (UA360 Kawasaki KHI) cross compound marine steam turbine with double reduction gear. Maximum output of 26,720 KW (36,340 ship horse power SHP) at a shaft speed of 94 r.p.m


Steam Plant
Two Foster Wheeler ESD III, dual-fired water tube boilers with capacity of MCR load 65000 kg/hour producing 61.8 bar 515 C dry superheated steam.
Alfa Laval fresh water production plant for boiler feed water system and domestic use.


Electrical Power Plant

Two ALSTHOM generator machines, 3-phase 450 volts max, 60 Hz at 1800 rpm which produce 5800 kW of electricity(2900 KW each) driven by Shinko R.G.92 steam turbine, 9 stage impulse type turbine.

One Daihatsu 8DK-32 Diesel Alternator, 8 cylinder, medium speed, vertical type with turbo charger running at 720 rpm which produce 2900 KW of electricity through the identical ALSTHOM generator machine as driven by the turbine.


Auxiliary Machinery

Instrumentation and control valves system mainly consists of Masoneilan and Fisher-Rosemount equipment and Yamatake-Honeywell

Distributed Control System (DCS) manufactured by the Yokogawa Control Bailey.

Domestic refrigeration V-type reciprocating compressor plant made by York.

Katadyne fresh water sterilization, mineralization and distribution system for domestic use.

Tanabe screw type instrument air compressor for Instrumentation and Control system.

Alfa Laval lubrication oil purifier, and purification system.

Various types of high pressure and low-pressure valves such as gate valve, globe valve, butterfly valve, non-return and screw down non-return valve, etc.

Maintenance of electric motor of various type.

Maintenance of various types of rotor dynamic and positive displacement pumps (centrifugal, screw, scroll, reciprocating pumps.

Pneumatic control system and hydraulic system.

Jotun hull cathodic protection system.
