Worked in a position as a Steel Fabricator / Fitter / Erector with supervisory experience dealing with the fabrication and installation of architectural and structural steel for the construction industry in Greater London.
The position required the skills for: planning jobs, risk and issue management, delivering quality, managing resources, leading small teams and working in multi cultural environment. I developed further skills in: reading and reviewing engineering drawings, precise measuring and cutting, and became adept at using industrial tools, assembling, repairing and installing components, rigging and lifting materials and working at heights. I developed a thorough knowledge of Health and Safety standards and the implementation thereof. I am physically fit and strong, have good hand-eye co-ordination and problem solving skills.

2000 - 2002 Research and Development Engineer in Material Science: School of Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, University of Kwa Zulu Natal, Durban, South Africa.
As part of a Semi Solid Metal (SSM) Research & Technology group, and in concert with the CSIR, we worked to establish a technical competence base in SSM-related technologies for South African industry. This was done by investigating core technologies associated with the classical SSM pressure die casting approach. My research focused on a life cycle analysis of the aluminum alloy A356. An investigation into material properties and characteristics during the materials manufacture and life cycle was compiled. Recycling models where investigated and developed to determine the performance and feasibility of alternative SSM approaches.
I presented a paper entitled; ‘RECYCLING OF SCRAP SSM ALUMINUM A356 ALLOY’, at the 7th International Conference of Semi Solid Processing of Alloys and Composites, Tsukuba, Japan. (September 2002).
Additional responsibilities included:
• Materials laboratory management and administration.
• Planning and execution of experiments in the field of semi solid casting and molten metal handling.
• Designing and installing of equipment and apparatus needed for experimental purposes.
• Designed and created assembly drawings for machining, welding and gauging; injection molding dies and machine parts.
• Consultations with industry for specialized tasks I.e. materials failure analysis, testing, composition and microstructure analysis.
• Practical demonstrator and course tutor for the metallurgy courses (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year) offered as part of the degree requirement for BSc Eng (Mech), at the University of Natal, Durban.
